Decline
ตตฺร โข อายสฺมา สาริปุตฺโต ภิกฺขู อามนฺเตสิ: “อาวุโส ภิกฺขเว”ติฯ
There Sāriputta addressed the bhikkhus: “Friends, bhikkhus!”
“อาวุโส”ติ โข เต ภิกฺขู อายสฺมโต สาริปุตฺตสฺส ปจฺจโสฺสสุํฯ อายสฺมา สาริปุตฺโต เอตทโวจ:
“Friend,” they replied. Sāriputta said this:
“โย หิ โกจิ, อาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ วา ภิกฺขุนี วา จตฺตาโร ธมฺเม อตฺตนิ สมนุปสฺสติ, นิฏฺฐเมตฺถ คนฺตพฺพํ: ‘ปริหายามิ กุสเลหิ ธมฺเมหิ'ฯ ปริหานเมตํ วุตฺตํ ภควตาฯ กตเม จตฺตาโร? ราคเวปุลฺลตฺตํ, โทสเวปุลฺลตฺตํ, โมหเวปุลฺลตฺตํ, คมฺภีเรสุ โข ปนสฺส ฐานาฐาเนสุ ปญฺญาจกฺขุ น กมติฯ โย หิ โกจิ, อาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ วา ภิกฺขุนี วา อิเม จตฺตาโร ธมฺเม อตฺตนิ สมนุปสฺสติ, นิฏฺฐเมตฺถ คนฺตพฺพํ: ‘ปริหายามิ กุสเลหิ ธมฺเมหิ'ฯ ปริหานเมตํ วุตฺตํ ภควตาฯ
“Friends, any monk or nun who sees four things inside themselves should conclude: ‘My skillful qualities are declining. For this is what the Buddha calls decline.’ What four? They have much greed, much hate, and much delusion; and their wisdom eye doesn’t go into the many deep matters. Any monk or nun who sees these four things inside themselves should conclude: ‘My skillful qualities are declining. For this is what the Buddha calls decline.’
โย หิ โกจิ, อาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ วา ภิกฺขุนี วา จตฺตาโร ธมฺเม อตฺตนิ สมนุปสฺสติ, นิฏฺฐเมตฺถ คนฺตพฺพํ: ‘น ปริหายามิ กุสเลหิ ธมฺเมหิ'ฯ อปริหานเมตํ วุตฺตํ ภควตาฯ กตเม จตฺตาโร? ราคตนุตฺตํ, โทสตนุตฺตํ, โมหตนุตฺตํ, คมฺภีเรสุ โข ปนสฺส ฐานาฐาเนสุ ปญฺญาจกฺขุ กมติฯ โย หิ โกจิ, อาวุโส, ภิกฺขุ วา ภิกฺขุนี วา อิเม จตฺตาโร ธมฺเม อตฺตนิ สมนุปสฺสติ, นิฏฺฐเมตฺถ คนฺตพฺพํ: ‘น ปริหายามิ กุสเลหิ ธมฺเมหิ'ฯ อปริหานเมตํ วุตฺตํ ภควตา”ติฯ
