Eons
“จตฺตาริมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, กปฺปสฺส อสงฺเขฺยยฺยานิฯ กตมานิ จตฺตาริ?
“Bhikkhus, an eon contains four uncountable periods. What four?
ยทา, ภิกฺขเว, กปฺโป สํวฏฺฏติ, ตํ น สุกรํ สงฺขาตุํ—เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสตานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสหสฺสานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสตสหสฺสานีติ วาฯ
When an eon contracts, it’s not easy to calculate how many years, how many hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of years it takes.
ยทา, ภิกฺขเว, กปฺโป สํวฏฺโฏ ติฏฺฐติ, ตํ น สุกรํ สงฺขาตุํ—เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสตานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสหสฺสานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสตสหสฺสานีติ วาฯ
When an eon remains fully contracted, it’s not easy to calculate how many years, how many hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of years it takes.
ยทา, ภิกฺขเว, กปฺโป วิวฏฺฏติ, ตํ น สุกรํ สงฺขาตุํ—เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสตานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสหสฺสานีติ วา, เอตฺตกานิ วสฺสสตสหสฺสานีติ วาฯ

อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตฺตาริ กปฺปสฺส อสงฺเขฺยยฺยานี”ติฯ
These are the four uncountable periods of an eon.”
