Five Hundred Carts
រាជគហេ វិហរតិ វេឡុវនេ កលន្ទកនិវាបេ។
Near Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrels’ feeding ground.
តេន ខោ បន សមយេន ទេវទត្តស្ស អជាតសត្តុកុមារោ បញ្ចហិ រថសតេហិ សាយំ បាតំ ឧបដ្ឋានំ គច្ឆតិ, បញ្ច ច ថាលិបាកសតានិ ភត្តាភិហារោ អភិហរីយតិ។
Now at that time Prince Ajātasattu was going with five hundred carts in the morning and the evening to attend on Devadatta, presenting him with an offering of five hundred servings of food.
អថ ខោ សម្ពហុលា ភិក្ខូ យេន ភគវា តេនុបសង្កមិំសុ; ឧបសង្កមិត្វា ភគវន្តំ អភិវាទេត្វា ឯកមន្តំ និសីទិំសុ។ ឯកមន្តំ និសិន្នា ខោ តេ ភិក្ខូ ភគវន្តំ ឯតទវោចុំ: “ទេវទត្តស្ស, ភន្តេ, អជាតសត្តុកុមារោ បញ្ចហិ រថសតេហិ សាយំ បាតំ ឧបដ្ឋានំ គច្ឆតិ, បញ្ច ច ថាលិបាកសតានិ ភត្តាភិហារោ អភិហរីយតី”តិ។
Then several bhikkhus went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him, “Sir, Prince Ajātasattu is going with five hundred carts in the morning and the evening to attend on Devadatta, presenting him with an offering of five hundred servings of food.”
“មា, ភិក្ខវេ, ទេវទត្តស្ស លាភសក្ការសិលោកំ បិហយិត្ថ។ យាវកីវញ្ច, ភិក្ខវេ, ទេវទត្តស្ស អជាតសត្តុកុមារោ បញ្ចហិ រថសតេហិ សាយំ បាតំ ឧបដ្ឋានំ គមិស្សតិ, បញ្ច ច ថាលិបាកសតានិ ភត្តាភិហារោ អាហរីយិស្សតិ, ហានិយេវ, ភិក្ខវេ, ទេវទត្តស្ស បាដិកង្ខា កុសលេសុ ធម្មេសុ, នោ វុទ្ធិ។
“Bhikkhus, don’t envy Devadatta’s possessions, honor, and popularity. As long as Prince Ajātasattu goes with five hundred carts in the morning and the evening to attend on Devadatta, presenting him with an offering of five hundred servings of food, Devadatta can expect decline, not growth, in skillful qualities.
សេយ្យថាបិ, ភិក្ខវេ, ចណ្ឌស្ស កុក្កុរស្ស នាសាយ បិត្តំ ភិន្ទេយ្យុំ, ឯវញ្ហិ សោ, ភិក្ខវេ, កុក្កុរោ ភិយ្យោសោ មត្តាយ ចណ្ឌតរោ អស្ស; ឯវមេវ, ភិក្ខវេ, យាវកីវញ្ច ទេវទត្តស្ស អជាតសត្តុកុមារោ បញ្ចហិ រថសតេហិ សាយំ បាតំ ឧបដ្ឋានំ គមិស្សតិ, បញ្ច ច ថាលិបាកសតានិ ភត្តាភិហារោ អាហរីយិស្សតិ, ហានិយេវ, ភិក្ខវេ, ទេវទត្តស្ស បាដិកង្ខា កុសលេសុ ធម្មេសុ, នោ វុទ្ធិ។
If bile were to burst from a wild dog’s nose, it would become even wilder. In the same way, as long as Prince Ajātasattu goes with five hundred carts in the morning and the evening to attend on Devadatta, presenting him with an offering of five hundred servings of food, Devadatta can expect decline, not growth, in skillful qualities.
ឯវំ ទារុណោ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, លាភសក្ការសិលោកោ …បេ… ឯវញ្ហិ វោ, ភិក្ខវេ, សិក្ខិតព្ពន៑”តិ។
