Falling Apart
အထ ခေါ အညတရော ဗြာဟ္မဏမဟာသာလော ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ …ပေ… ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နော ခေါ သော ဗြာဟ္မဏမဟာသာလော ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ:
Then a well-to-do Brahmin went up to the Buddha, and seated to one side he said to him:
“သုတံ မေတံ, ဘော ဂေါတမ, ပုဗ္ဗကာနံ ဗြာဟ္မဏာနံ ဝုဒ္ဓါနံ မဟလ္လကာနံ အာစရိယပါစရိယာနံ ဘာသမာနာနံ: ‘ပုဗ္ဗေ သုဒံ အယံ လောကော အဝီစိ မညေ ဖုဋော အဟောသိ မနုဿေဟိ, ကုက္ကုဋသံပါတိကာ ဂါမနိဂမရာဇဓာနိယော'တိ၊ ကော နု ခေါ, ဘော ဂေါတမ, ဟေတု ကော ပစ္စယော ယေနေတရဟိ မနုဿာနံ ခယော ဟောတိ, တနုတ္တံ ပညာယတိ, ဂါမာပိ အဂါမာ ဟောန္တိ, နိဂမာပိ အနိဂမာ ဟောန္တိ, နဂရာပိ အနဂရာ ဟောန္တိ, ဇနပဒါပိ အဇနပဒါ ဟောန္တီ”တိ?
“Master Gotama, I have heard that brahmins of the past who were elderly and senior, the teachers of teachers, said: ‘In the old days this world was as crowded as hell with people. The villages, towns and capital cities were no more than a chicken’s flight apart.’ What is the cause, sir, what is the reason why these days human numbers have dwindled, a decline in population is evident, and whole villages, towns, cities, and countries have disappeared?”
“ဧတရဟိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, မနုဿာ အဓမ္မရာဂရတ္တာ ဝိသမလောဘာဘိဘူတာ မိစ္ဆာဓမ္မပရေတာ၊ တေ အဓမ္မရာဂရတ္တာ ဝိသမလောဘာဘိဘူတာ မိစ္ဆာဓမ္မပရေတာ တိဏှာနိ သတ္ထာနိ ဂဟေတွာ အညမညံ ဇီဝိတာ ဝေါရောပေန္တိ, တေန ဗဟူ မနုဿာ ကာလံ ကရောန္တိ၊ အယမ္ပိ ခေါ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဟေတု အယံ ပစ္စယော ယေနေတရဟိ မနုဿာနံ ခယော ဟောတိ, တနုတ္တံ ပညာယတိ, ဂါမာပိ အဂါမာ ဟောန္တိ, နိဂမာပိ အနိဂမာ ဟောန္တိ, နဂရာပိ အနဂရာ ဟောန္တိ, ဇနပဒါပိ အဇနပဒါ ဟောန္တိ၊
“These days, brahmin, humans just love illicit desire. They’re overcome by immoral greed, and mired in wrong custom. Taking up sharp knives, they murder each other. And so many people perish. This is the cause, this is the reason why these days human numbers have dwindled.
ပုန စပရံ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဧတရဟိ မနုဿာ အဓမ္မရာဂရတ္တာ ဝိသမလောဘာဘိဘူတာ မိစ္ဆာဓမ္မပရေတာ၊ တေသံ အဓမ္မရာဂရတ္တာနံ ဝိသမလောဘာဘိဘူတာနံ မိစ္ဆာဓမ္မပရေတာနံ ဒေဝေါ န သမ္မာဓာရံ အနုပ္ပဝေစ္ဆတိ၊ တေန ဒုဗ္ဘိက္ခံ ဟောတိ ဒုဿဿံ သေတဋ္ဌိကံ သလာကာဝုတ္တံ၊ တေန ဗဟူ မနုဿာ ကာလံ ကရောန္တိ၊ အယမ္ပိ ခေါ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဟေတု အယံ ပစ္စယော ယေနေတရဟိ မနုဿာနံ ခယော ဟောတိ, တနုတ္တံ ပညာယတိ, ဂါမာပိ အဂါမာ ဟောန္တိ, နိဂမာပိ အနိဂမာ ဟောန္တိ, နဂရာပိ အနဂရာ ဟောန္တိ, ဇနပဒါပိ အဇနပဒါ ဟောန္တိ၊
Furthermore, because these days humans just love illicit desire … the heavens don’t provide enough rain, so there’s famine, a bad harvest, with blighted crops that turn to straw. And so many people perish. This is the cause, this is the reason why these days human numbers have dwindled.
ပုန စပရံ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဧတရဟိ မနုဿာ အဓမ္မရာဂရတ္တာ ဝိသမလောဘာဘိဘူတာ မိစ္ဆာဓမ္မပရေတာ၊ တေသံ အဓမ္မရာဂရတ္တာနံ ဝိသမလောဘာဘိဘူတာနံ မိစ္ဆာဓမ္မပရေတာနံ ယက္ခာ ဝါဠေ အမနုဿေ ဩဿဇ္ဇန္တိ, တေန ဗဟူ မနုဿာ ကာလံ ကရောန္တိ၊ အယမ္ပိ ခေါ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဟေတု အယံ ပစ္စယော ယေနေတရဟိ မနုဿာနံ ခယော ဟောတိ, တနုတ္တံ ပညာယတိ, ဂါမာပိ အဂါမာ ဟောန္တိ, နိဂမာပိ အနိဂမာ ဟောန္တိ, နဂရာပိ အနဂရာ ဟောန္တိ, ဇနပဒါပိ အဇနပဒါ ဟောန္တီ”တိ၊
Furthermore, because these days humans just love illicit desire … native spirits let vicious monsters loose. And so many people perish. This is the cause, this is the reason why these days human numbers have dwindled.”
“အဘိက္ကန္တံ, ဘော ဂေါတမ …ပေ… ဥပါသကံ မံ ဘဝံ ဂေါတမော ဓာရေတု အဇ္ဇတဂ္ဂေ ပါဏုပေတံ သရဏံ ဂတန်”တိ၊
“Excellent, Master Gotama! Excellent! … From this day forth, may Master Gotama remember me as a lay follower who has gone for refuge for life.”
