នខសិខសុត្ត
A Fingernail
សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
អថ ខោ ភគវា បរិត្តំ នខសិខាយំ បំសុំ អារោបេត្វា ភិក្ខូ អាមន្តេសិ: “តំ កិំ មញ្ញថ, ភិក្ខវេ, កតមំ នុ ខោ ពហុតរំ, យោ ចាយំ មយា បរិត្តោ នខសិខាយំ បំសុ អារោបិតោ យា ចាយំ មហាបថវី”តិ?
Then the Buddha, picking up a little bit of dirt under his fingernail, addressed the bhikkhus: “What do you think, bhikkhus? Which is more: the little bit of dirt under my fingernail, or this great earth?”
“ឯតទេវ, ភន្តេ, ពហុតរំ យទិទំ មហាបថវី។ អប្បមត្តកោយំ ភគវតា បរិត្តោ នខសិខាយំ បំសុ អារោបិតោ។ សង្ខម្បិ ន ឧបេតិ ឧបនិធិម្បិ ន ឧបេតិ កលភាគម្បិ ន ឧបេតិ មហាបថវិំ ឧបនិធាយ ភគវតា បរិត្តោ នខសិខាយំ បំសុ អារោបិតោ”តិ។
“Sir, the great earth is far more. The little bit of dirt under your fingernail is tiny. Compared to the great earth, it doesn’t count, there’s no comparison, it’s not worth a fraction.”
“ឯវមេវ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, អប្បកា តេ សត្តា យេ មនុស្សេសុ បច្ចាជាយន្តិ; អថ ខោ ឯតេយេវ ពហុតរា សត្តា យេ អញ្ញត្រ មនុស្សេហិ បច្ចាជាយន្តិ។
“In the same way the sentient beings reborn as humans are few, while those not reborn as humans are many.
តស្មាតិហ, ភិក្ខវេ, ឯវំ សិក្ខិតព្ពំ: ‘អប្បមត្តា វិហរិស្សាមាៜតិ។ ឯវញ្ហិ វោ, ភិក្ខវេ, សិក្ខិតព្ពន៑”តិ។
So you should train like this: ‘We will stay diligent.’ That’s how you should train.”
