Visiting Families
សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
“តំ កិំ មញ្ញថ, ភិក្ខវេ, កថំរូបោ ភិក្ខុ អរហតិ កុលូបកោ ហោតុំ, កថំរូបោ ភិក្ខុ ន អរហតិ កុលូបកោ ហោតុន៑”តិ?
“What do you think, bhikkhus? What kind of bhikkhu is worthy of visiting families? And what kind of bhikkhu is not worthy of visiting families?”
ភគវំមូលកា នោ, ភន្តេ, ធម្មា …បេ… ភគវា ឯតទវោច:
“Our teachings are rooted in the Buddha. …” The Buddha said this:
“យោ ហិ កោចិ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ ឯវំចិត្តោ កុលានិ ឧបសង្កមតិ: ‘ទេន្តុយេវ មេ, មា នាទំសុ; ពហុកញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា ថោកំ; បណីតញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា លូខំ; សីឃញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា ទន្ធំ; សក្កច្ចញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា អសក្កច្ចន៑ៜតិ។ តស្ស ចេ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុនោ ឯវំចិត្តស្ស កុលានិ ឧបសង្កមតោ ន ទេន្តិ, តេន ភិក្ខុ សន្ទីយតិ; សោ តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ ថោកំ ទេន្តិ, នោ ពហុកំ …បេ… លូខំ ទេន្តិ, នោ បណីតំ … ទន្ធំ ទេន្តិ, នោ សីឃំ, តេន ភិក្ខុ សន្ទីយតិ; សោ តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ អសក្កច្ចំ ទេន្តិ, នោ សក្កច្ចំ; តេន ភិក្ខុ សន្ទីយតិ; សោ តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ ឯវរូបោ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ ន អរហតិ កុលូបកោ ហោតុំ។
“Whoever visits families with the thought: ‘May they give to me, may they not fail to give. May they give a lot, not a little. May they give me fine things, not coarse. May they give quickly, not slowly. May they give carefully, not carelessly.’ If a bhikkhu with such a thought approaches a family and they don’t give, the bhikkhu feels slighted. And they experience pain and sadness because of that. If they give only a little … if they give coarse things … if they give slowly … if they give carelessly, the bhikkhu feels slighted. And they experience pain and sadness because of that. That kind of bhikkhu is not worthy of visiting families.
យោ ច ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ ឯវំចិត្តោ កុលានិ ឧបសង្កមតិ: ‘តំ កុតេត្ថ លព្ភា បរកុលេសុ—
Whoever visits families with the thought: ‘When among other families, how could I possibly think:
ទេន្តុយេវ មេ, មា នាទំសុ; ពហុកញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា ថោកំ; បណីតញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា លូខំ; សីឃញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា ទន្ធំ; សក្កច្ចញ្ញេវ មេ ទេន្តុ, មា អសក្កច្ចន៑ៜតិ។ តស្ស ចេ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុនោ ឯវំចិត្តស្ស កុលានិ ឧបសង្កមតោ ន ទេន្តិ; តេន ភិក្ខុ ន សន្ទីយតិ; សោ ន តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ ថោកំ ទេន្តិ, នោ ពហុកំ; តេន ភិក្ខុ ន សន្ទីយតិ; សោ ន តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ លូខំ ទេន្តិ, នោ បណីតំ; តេន ភិក្ខុ ន សន្ទីយតិ; សោ ន តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ ទន្ធំ ទេន្តិ, នោ សីឃំ; តេន ភិក្ខុ ន សន្ទីយតិ; សោ ន តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ អសក្កច្ចំ ទេន្តិ, នោ សក្កច្ចំ; តេន ភិក្ខុ ន សន្ទីយតិ; សោ ន តតោនិទានំ ទុក្ខំ ទោមនស្សំ បដិសំវេទយតិ។ ឯវរូបោ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, ភិក្ខុ អរហតិ កុលូបកោ ហោតុំ។

May they give carefully, not carelessly.”’ With such a thought, if he approaches a family and they don’t give, he doesn’t feel slighted. And he doesn’t experience pain and sadness because of that. If they give only a little … if they give coarse things … if they give slowly … if they give carelessly, he doesn’t feel slighted. And he doesn’t experience pain and sadness because of that. I will exhort you with the example of Kassapa or someone like him. You should practice accordingly.”
