Shines as an Expert in the Monastic Law (2nd)
“สตฺตหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต วินยธโร โสภติฯ กตเมหิ สตฺตหิ? อาปตฺตึ ชานาติ, อนาปตฺตึ ชานาติ, ลหุกํ อาปตฺตึ ชานาติ, ครุกํ อาปตฺตึ ชานาติ, อุภยานิ โข ปนสฺส ปาติโมกฺขานิ วิตฺถาเรน สฺวาคตานิ โหนฺติ สุวิภตฺตานิ สุปฺปวตฺตีนิ สุวินิจฺฉิตานิ สุตฺตโส อนุพฺยญฺชนโส, จตุนฺนํ ฌานานํ …เป… อกสิรลาภี, อาสวานํ ขยา …เป… สจฺฉิกตฺวา อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหรติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, สตฺตหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต วินยธโร โสภตี”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with seven qualities shines as an expert in the monastic law. What seven? They know what is an offense. They know what is not an offense. They know what is a light offense. They know what is a serious offense. Both monastic codes have been passed down to them in detail, well analyzed, well mastered, well judged in both the rules and accompanying material. They get the four jhānas—pleasant meditations in the present life that belong to the higher mind—when they want, without trouble or difficulty. They realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements. A bhikkhu with these seven qualities shines as an expert in the monastic law.”
