“อสปฺปุริสญฺจ โว, ภิกฺขเว, เทเสสฺสามิ, อสปฺปุริเสน อสปฺปุริสตรญฺจฯ สปฺปุริสญฺจ โว, ภิกฺขเว, เทเสสฺสามิ สปฺปุริเสน สปฺปุริสตรญฺจฯ ตํ สุณาถฯ
“Bhikkhus, I will teach you a bad person and a worse person, a good person and a better person. Listen …
กตโม จ, ภิกฺขเว, อสปฺปุริโส? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, เอกจฺโจ มิจฺฉาทิฏฺฐิโก โหติ …เป… มิจฺฉาสมาธิ—อยํ วุจฺจติ, ภิกฺขเว, อสปฺปุริโสฯ
And what is a bad person? It’s someone who has wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, and wrong samādhi. This is called a bad person.
กตโม จ, ภิกฺขเว, อสปฺปุริเสน อสปฺปุริสตโร? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, เอกจฺโจ มิจฺฉาทิฏฺฐิโก โหติ …เป… มิจฺฉาสมาธิ, มิจฺฉาญาณี, มิจฺฉาวิมุตฺติ—อยํ วุจฺจติ, ภิกฺขเว, อสปฺปุริเสน อสปฺปุริสตโรฯ
And what is a worse person? It’s someone who has wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, wrong samādhi, wrong knowledge, and wrong freedom. This is called a worse person.
กตโม จ, ภิกฺขเว, สปฺปุริโส? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, เอกจฺโจ สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิโก โหติ …เป… สมฺมาสมาธิ—อยํ วุจฺจติ, ภิกฺขเว, สปฺปุริโสฯ
And what is a good person? It’s someone who has right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samādhi. This is called a good person.
