A Deity
“ဣမဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ရတ္တိံ သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဒေဝတာ အဘိက္ကန္တာယ ရတ္တိယာ အဘိက္ကန္တဝဏ္ဏာ ကေဝလကပ္ပံ ဇေတဝနံ ဩဘာသေတွာ ယေနာဟံ တေနုပသင်္ကမိံသု; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ မံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ အဋ္ဌံသု၊ ဧကမန္တံ ဌိတာ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တာ ဒေဝတာ မံ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: ‘ဥပသင်္ကမိံသု နော, ဘန္တေ, ပုဗ္ဗေ မနုဿဘူတာနံ ပဗ္ဗဇိတာ အဂါရာနိ၊ တေ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, ပစ္စုဋ္ဌိမှ, နော စ ခေါ အဘိဝါဒိမှ၊ တာ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, အပရိပုဏ္ဏကမ္မန္တာ ဝိပ္ပဋိသာရိနိယော ပစ္စာနုတာပိနိယော ဟီနံ ကာယံ ဥပပန္နာ'တိ၊
“Bhikkhus, tonight, several glorious deities, lighting up the entire Jeta’s Grove, came to me, bowed, stood to one side, and said to me: ‘Sir, formerly when we were human beings, renunciates came to our homes. We politely rose for them, but we didn’t bow. And so, having not fulfilled our duty, full of remorse and regret, we were reborn in a lesser realm.’
အပရာပိ မံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဒေဝတာ ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: ‘ဥပသင်္ကမိံသု နော, ဘန္တေ, ပုဗ္ဗေ မနုဿဘူတာနံ ပဗ္ဗဇိတာ အဂါရာနိ၊ တေ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, ပစ္စုဋ္ဌိမှ အဘိဝါဒိမှ, နော စ တေသံ အာသနံ အဒမှ၊ တာ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, အပရိပုဏ္ဏကမ္မန္တာ ဝိပ္ပဋိသာရိနိယော ပစ္စာနုတာပိနိယော ဟီနံ ကာယံ ဥပပန္နာ'တိ၊
Then several other deities came to me and said: ‘Sir, formerly when we were human beings, renunciates came to our homes. We politely rose for them and bowed, but we didn’t offer a seat. And so, having not fulfilled our duty, full of remorse and regret, we were reborn in a lesser realm.’
အပရာပိ မံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဒေဝတာ ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: ‘ဥပသင်္ကမိံသု နော, ဘန္တေ, ပုဗ္ဗေ မနုဿဘူတာနံ ပဗ္ဗဇိတာ အဂါရာနိ၊ တေ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, ပစ္စုဋ္ဌိမှ အဘိဝါဒိမှ အာသနံ အဒမှ, နော စ ခေါ ယထာသတ္တိ ယထာဗလံ သံဝိဘဇိမှ …ပေ…
Then several other deities came to me and said: ‘Sir, formerly when we were human beings, renunciates came to our homes. We politely rose for them, bowed, and offered a seat, but we didn’t share as best we could. …’

ဓာတာနဉ္စ ဓမ္မာနံ အတ္ထံ ဥပပရိက္ခိမှ, နော စ ခေါ အတ္ထမညာယ ဓမ္မမညာယ ဓမ္မာနုဓမ္မံ ပဋိပဇ္ဇိမှ၊ တာ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, အပရိပုဏ္ဏကမ္မန္တာ ဝိပ္ပဋိသာရိနိယော ပစ္စာနုတာပိနိယော ဟီနံ ကာယံ ဥပပန္နာ'တိ၊
‘… having understood the meaning and the teaching, we didn’t practice accordingly. And so, having not fulfilled our duty, full of remorse and regret, we were reborn in a lesser realm.’
အပရာပိ မံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဒေဝတာ ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: ‘ဥပသင်္ကမိံသု နော, ဘန္တေ, ပုဗ္ဗေ မနုဿဘူတာနံ ပဗ္ဗဇိတာ အဂါရာနိ၊ တေ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, ပစ္စုဋ္ဌိမှ အဘိဝါဒိမှ, အာသနံ အဒမှ, ယထာသတ္တိ ယထာဗလံ သံဝိဘဇိမှ, ဥပနိသီဒိမှ ဓမ္မဿဝနာယ, ဩဟိတသောတာ စ ဓမ္မံ သုဏိမှ, သုတွာ စ ဓမ္မံ ဓာရယိမှ, ဓာတာနဉ္စ ဓမ္မာနံ အတ္ထံ ဥပပရိက္ခိမှ, အတ္ထမညာယ ဓမ္မမညာယ ဓမ္မာနုဓမ္မံ ပဋိပဇ္ဇိမှ၊ တာ မယံ, ဘန္တေ, ပရိပုဏ္ဏကမ္မန္တာ အဝိပ္ပဋိသာရိနိယော အပစ္စာနုတာပိနိယော ပဏီတံ ကာယံ ဥပပန္နာ'တိ၊
Then several other deities came to me and said: ‘Sir, formerly when we were human beings, renunciates came to our homes. We politely rose, bowed, and offered them a seat. We shared as best we could. We sat nearby to listen to the teachings, lent an ear, memorized them, and examined their meaning. Understanding the teaching and the meaning we practiced accordingly. And so, having fulfilled our duty, free of remorse and regret, we were reborn in a superior realm.’
ဧတာနိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ရုက္ခမူလာနိ ဧတာနိ သုညာဂါရာနိ၊ ဈာယထ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, မာ ပမာဒတ္ထ, မာ ပစ္ဆာ ဝိပ္ပဋိသာရိနော အဟုဝတ္ထ သေယျထာပိ တာ ပုရိမိကာ ဒေဝတာ”တိ၊
Here, bhikkhus, are these roots of trees, and here are these empty huts. Practice jhāna, bhikkhus! Don’t be negligent! Don’t regret it later, like those former deities.”
