အထ ခေါ သိခါမောဂ္ဂလ္လာနော ဗြာဟ္မဏော ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝတာ သဒ္ဓိံ သမ္မောဒိ၊ သမ္မောဒနီယံ ကထံ သာရဏီယံ ဝီတိသာရေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ နိသီဒိ၊ ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နော ခေါ သိခါမောဂ္ဂလ္လာနော ဗြာဟ္မဏော ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ:
Then Sikhāmoggallāna the brahmin went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him. When the greetings and polite conversation were over, Sikhāmoggallāna sat down to one side, and said to the Buddha:
“ပုရိမာနိ, ဘော ဂေါတမ, ဒိဝသာနိ ပုရိမတရာနိ သောဏကာယနော မာဏဝေါ ယေနာဟံ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ မံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: ‘သမဏော ဂေါတမော သဗ္ဗကမ္မာနံ အကိရိယံ ပညပေတိ, သဗ္ဗကမ္မာနံ ခေါ ပန အကိရိယံ ပညပေန္တော ဥစ္ဆေဒံ အာဟ လောကဿ'—ကမ္မသစ္စာယံ, ဘော, လောကော ကမ္မသမာရမ္ဘဋ္ဌာယီ”တိ၊
“Master Gotama, a few days ago the student Soṇakāyana came to me and said: ‘The ascetic Gotama advocates not doing any deeds. So he teaches the annihilation of the world!’ The world exists through deeds, and it remains because deeds are undertaken.”
“ဒဿနမ္ပိ ခေါ အဟံ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, သောဏကာယနဿ မာဏဝဿ နာဘိဇာနာမိ; ကုတော ပနေဝရူပေါ ကထာသလ္လာပေါ၊ စတ္တာရိမာနိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မာနိ မယာ သယံ အဘိညာ သစ္ဆိကတွာ ပဝေဒိတာနိ၊ ကတမာနိ စတ္တာရိ?
“Brahmin, I can’t recall even seeing the student Soṇakāyana, so how could we possibly have had such a discussion? I declare these four kinds of deeds, having realized them with my own insight. What four?
အတ္ထိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ ကဏှံ ကဏှဝိပါကံ;
There are dark deeds with dark results;
အတ္ထိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ သုက္ကံ သုက္ကဝိပါကံ;
bright deeds with bright results;
အတ္ထိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ ကဏှသုက္ကံ ကဏှသုက္ကဝိပါကံ;
dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results; and
အတ္ထိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ အကဏှအသုက္ကံ အကဏှအသုက္ကဝိပါကံ ကမ္မက္ခယာယ သံဝတ္တတိ၊
neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ ကဏှံ ကဏှဝိပါကံ? ဣဓ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဧကစ္စော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ကာယသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ဝစီသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ မနောသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ၊ သော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ကာယသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ဝစီသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ မနောသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ လောကံ ဥပပဇ္ဇတိ၊ တမေနံ သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ လောကံ ဥပပန္နံ သမာနံ သဗျာဗဇ္ဈာ ဖဿာ ဖုသန္တိ၊ သော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈေဟိ ဖဿေဟိ ဖုဋ္ဌော သမာနော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ဝေဒနံ ဝေဒိယတိ ဧကန္တဒုက္ခံ, သေယျထာပိ သတ္တာ နေရယိကာ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ ကဏှံ ကဏှဝိပါကံ၊
And what are the dark deeds with dark results? It’s when someone creates hurtful habitual functioning patterns of the body, speech, and mind. … Touched by hurtful contacts, they experience hurtful feelings that are exclusively painful—like the beings in hell. These are called dark deeds with dark results.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ သုက္ကံ သုက္ကဝိပါကံ? ဣဓ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဧကစ္စော အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ကာယသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ, အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ဝစီသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ, အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ မနောသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ၊ သော အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ကာယသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ, အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ဝစီသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ, အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ မနောသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ လောကံ ဥပပဇ္ဇတိ၊ တမေနံ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ လောကံ ဥပပန္နံ သမာနံ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈာ ဖဿာ ဖုသန္တိ၊ သော အဗျာဗဇ္ဈေဟိ ဖဿေဟိ ဖုဋ္ဌော သမာနော အဗျာဗဇ္ဈံ ဝေဒနံ ဝေဒိယတိ ဧကန္တသုခံ, သေယျထာပိ ဒေဝါ သုဘကိဏှာ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ သုက္ကံ သုက္ကဝိပါကံ၊
And what are bright deeds with bright results? It’s when someone creates pleasing habitual functioning patterns of the body, speech, and mind. … Touched by pleasing contacts, they experience pleasing feelings that are exclusively happy—like the gods replete with glory. These are called bright deeds with bright results.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ ကဏှသုက္ကံ ကဏှသုက္ကဝိပါကံ? ဣဓ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ဧကစ္စော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ ကာယသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ ဝစီသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ မနောသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရောတိ၊ သော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ ကာယသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ ဝစီသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ, သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ မနောသင်္ခါရံ အဘိသင်္ခရိတွာ သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ လောကံ ဥပပဇ္ဇတိ၊ တမေနံ သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ လောကံ ဥပပန္နံ သမာနံ သဗျာဗဇ္ဈာပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈာပိ ဖဿာ ဖုသန္တိ၊ သော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈေဟိပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈေဟိပိ ဖဿေဟိ ဖုဋ္ဌော သမာနော သဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ အဗျာဗဇ္ဈမ္ပိ ဝေဒနံ ဝေဒိယတိ ဝေါကိဏ္ဏသုခဒုက္ခံ, သေယျထာပိ မနုဿာ ဧကစ္စေ စ ဒေဝါ ဧကစ္စေ စ ဝိနိပါတိကာ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ ကဏှသုက္ကံ ကဏှသုက္ကဝိပါကံ၊
And what are dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results? It’s when someone creates both hurtful and pleasing habitual functioning patterns of the body, speech, and mind. … Touched by both hurtful and pleasing contacts, they experience both hurtful and pleasing feelings that are a mixture of pleasure and pain—like humans, some gods, and some beings in the underworld. These are called dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ အကဏှအသုက္ကံ အကဏှအသုက္ကဝိပါကံ ကမ္မက္ခယာယ သံဝတ္တတိ? တတြ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ယမိဒံ ကမ္မံ ကဏှံ ကဏှဝိပါကံ တဿ ပဟာနာယ ယာ စေတနာ, ယမိဒံ ကမ္မံ သုက္ကံ သုက္ကဝိပါကံ တဿ ပဟာနာယ ယာ စေတနာ, ယမိဒံ ကမ္မံ ကဏှသုက္ကံ ကဏှသုက္ကဝိပါကံ တဿ ပဟာနာယ ယာ စေတနာ—ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, ကမ္မံ အကဏှအသုက္ကံ အကဏှအသုက္ကဝိပါကံ ကမ္မက္ခယာယ သံဝတ္တတိ၊
And what are neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds? It’s the intention to give up dark deeds with dark results, bright deeds with bright results, and both dark and bright deeds with both dark and bright results. These are called neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds.
ဣမာနိ ခေါ, ဗြာဟ္မဏ, စတ္တာရိ ကမ္မာနိ မယာ သယံ အဘိညာ သစ္ဆိကတွာ ပဝေဒိတာနီ”တိ၊
These are the four kinds of deeds that I declare, having realized them with my own insight.”
