Timidity
ឯវំ មេ សុតំ—ឯកំ សមយំ ភគវា សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ ជេតវនេ អនាថបិណ្ឌិកស្ស អារាមេ។ តត្រ ខោ ភគវា ភិក្ខូ អាមន្តេសិ: “ភិក្ខវោ”តិ។
So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. There the Buddha addressed the bhikkhus, “Bhikkhus!”
“ភទន្តេ”តិ តេ ភិក្ខូ ភគវតោ បច្ចស្សោសុំ។ ភគវា ឯតទវោច:
“Venerable sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this:
“បញ្ចហិ, ភិក្ខវេ, ធម្មេហិ សមន្នាគតោ ឧបាសកោ សារជ្ឹ ឱក្កន្តោ ហោតិ។ កតមេហិ បញ្ចហិ? បាណាតិបាតី ហោតិ, អទិន្នាទាយី ហោតិ, កាមេសុមិច្ឆាចារី ហោតិ, មុសាវាទី ហោតិ, សុរាមេរយមជ្ជបមាទដ្ឋាយី ហោតិ។ ឥមេហិ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, បញ្ចហិ ធម្មេហិ សមន្នាគតោ ឧបាសកោ សារជ្ឹ ឱក្កន្តោ ហោតិ។
“A lay follower with five qualities is overcome by timidity. What five? They kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, and use alcoholic drinks that cause negligence. A lay follower with these five qualities is overcome by timidity.
បញ្ចហិ, ភិក្ខវេ, ធម្មេហិ សមន្នាគតោ ឧបាសកោ វិសារទោ ហោតិ។ កតមេហិ បញ្ចហិ? បាណាតិបាតា បដិវិរតោ ហោតិ, អទិន្នាទានា បដិវិរតោ ហោតិ, កាមេសុមិច្ឆាចារា បដិវិរតោ ហោតិ, មុសាវាទា បដិវិរតោ ហោតិ, សុរាមេរយមជ្ជបមាទដ្ឋានា បដិវិរតោ ហោតិ។ ឥមេហិ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, បញ្ចហិ ធម្មេហិ សមន្នាគតោ ឧបាសកោ វិសារទោ ហោតី”តិ។
A lay follower with five qualities is self-assured. What five? They don’t kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, or use alcoholic drinks that cause negligence. A lay follower with these five qualities is self-assured.”
