สํเวชนียสุตฺต
Inspiring
“จตฺตาริมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธสฺส กุลปุตฺตสฺส ทสฺสนียานิ สํเวชนียานิ ฐานานิฯ กตมานิ จตฺตาริ?
“Bhikkhus, a faithful gentleman should go to see these four inspiring places. What four?
‘อิธ ตถาคโต ชาโต'ติ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธสฺส กุลปุตฺตสฺส ทสฺสนียํ สํเวชนียํ ฐานํฯ
Thinking: ‘Here the Realized One was born!’—that is an inspiring place.
‘อิธ ตถาคโต อนุตฺตรํ สมฺมาสมฺโพธึ อภิสมฺพุทฺโธ'ติ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธสฺส กุลปุตฺตสฺส ทสฺสนียํ สํเวชนียํ ฐานํฯ
Thinking: ‘Here the Realized One became awakened as a supreme fully awakened Buddha!’—that is an inspiring place.
‘อิธ ตถาคโต อนุตฺตรํ ธมฺมจกฺกํ ปวตฺเตสี'ติ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธสฺส กุลปุตฺตสฺส ทสฺสนียํ สํเวชนียํ ฐานํฯ
Thinking: ‘Here the Realized One rolled forth the supreme Wheel of Dhamma!’—that is an inspiring place.
‘อิธ ตถาคโต อนุปาทิเสสาย นิพฺพานธาตุยา ปรินิพฺพุโต'ติ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธสฺส กุลปุตฺตสฺส ทสฺสนียํ สํเวชนียํ ฐานํฯ
Thinking: ‘Here the Realized One became fully extinguished in the element of Nibbana, with nothing left over!’—that is an inspiring place.
อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตฺตาริ สทฺธสฺส กุลปุตฺตสฺส ทสฺสนียานิ สํเวชนียานิ ฐานานี”ติฯ
These are the four inspiring places that a faithful gentleman should go to see.”
