Who Should Have a Novice as Attendant
“පඤ්චහි, භික්ඛවේ, ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතේන භික්ඛුනා සාමණේරෝ උපට්ඨාපේතබ්බෝ. කතමේහි පඤ්චහි? ඉධ, භික්ඛවේ, භික්ඛු අසේඛේන සීලක්ඛන්ධේන සමන්නාගතෝ හෝති; අසේඛේන සමාධික්ඛන්ධේන … අසේඛේන පඤ්ඤාක්ඛන්ධේන … අසේඛේන විමුත්තික්ඛන්ධේන … අසේඛේන විමුත්තිඤාණදස්සනක්ඛන්ධේන සමන්නාගතෝ හෝති. ඉමේහි ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, පඤ්චහි ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතේන භික්ඛුනා සාමණේරෝ උපට්ඨාපේතබ්බෝ”ති.
“Bhikkhus, a novice should attend on a bhikkhu with five qualities. What five? It’s a bhikkhu who has the entire spectrum of an adept’s ethics, samādhi, wisdom, freedom, and the knowledge and vision of freedom. A novice should attend on a bhikkhu with these five qualities.”
