තත්ර ඛෝ ආයස්මා සාරිපුත්තෝ භික්ඛූ ආමන්තේසි: “ආවුසෝ භික්ඛවේ”ති.
There Venerable Sāriputta addressed the bhikkhus: “Friends, bhikkhus!”
“ආවුසෝ”ති ඛෝ තේ භික්ඛූ ආයස්මතෝ සාරිපුත්තස්ස පච්චස්සෝසුං. ආයස්මා සාරිපුත්තෝ ඒතදවෝච:
“Friend,” they replied. Sāriputta said this:
“පඤ්චහාවුසෝ, ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ භික්ඛු අලං සාකච්ඡෝ සබ්රහ්මචාරීනං. කතමේහි පඤ්චහි?
“A bhikkhu with five qualities is fit to hold a discussion with their spiritual companions. What five?
ඉධාවුසෝ, භික්ඛු අත්තනා ච සීලසම්පන්නෝ හෝති, සීලසම්පදාකථාය ච ආගතං පඤ්හං බ්යාකත්තා හෝති;
A bhikkhu is personally accomplished in ethics, and answers questions that come up when discussing accomplishment in ethics.
අත්තනා ච සමාධිසම්පන්නෝ හෝති, සමාධිසම්පදාකථාය ච ආගතං පඤ්හං බ්යාකත්තා හෝති;
They’re personally accomplished in samādhi, …

අත්තනා ච විමුත්තිඤාණදස්සනසම්පන්නෝ හෝති, විමුත්තිඤාණදස්සනසම්පදාකථාය ච ආගතං පඤ්හං බ්යාකත්තා හෝති.
They’re personally accomplished in the knowledge and vision of freedom, and they answer questions that come up when discussing accomplishment in the knowledge and vision of freedom.
ඉමේහි ඛෝ, ආවුසෝ, පඤ්චහි ධම්මේහි සමන්නාගතෝ භික්ඛු අලං සාකච්ඡෝ සබ්රහ්මචාරීනන්”ති.
