Phagguna’s Question
အထ ခေါ အာယသ္မာ ဖဂ္ဂုနော …ပေ… ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နော ခေါ အာယသ္မာ ဖဂ္ဂုနော ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ:
And then Venerable Phagguna went up to the Buddha … and said to him:
“အတ္ထိ နု ခေါ, ဘန္တေ, တံ စက္ခု, ယေန စက္ခုနာ အတီတေ ဗုဒ္ဓေ ပရိနိဗ္ဗုတေ ဆိန္နပပဉ္စေ ဆိန္နဝဋုမေ ပရိယာဒိန္နဝဋ္ဋေ သဗ္ဗဒုက္ခဝီတိဝဋ္ဋေ ပညာပယမာနော ပညာပေယျ …ပေ…
“Sir, suppose someone were to describe the Buddhas of the past who have become completely extinguished, cut off proliferation, cut off the track, finished off the cycle, and transcended suffering. Does the eye exist by which they could be described?
အတ္ထိ နု ခေါ, ဘန္တေ, သာ ဇိဝှါ, ယာယ ဇိဝှါယ အတီတေ ဗုဒ္ဓေ ပရိနိဗ္ဗုတေ ဆိန္နပပဉ္စေ ဆိန္နဝဋုမေ ပရိယာဒိန္နဝဋ္ဋေ သဗ္ဗဒုက္ခဝီတိဝဋ္ဋေ ပညာပယမာနော ပညာပေယျ …ပေ… အတ္ထိ နု ခေါ သော, ဘန္တေ, မနော, ယေန မနေန အတီတေ ဗုဒ္ဓေ ပရိနိဗ္ဗုတေ ဆိန္နပပဉ္စေ ဆိန္နဝဋုမေ ပရိယာဒိန္နဝဋ္ဋေ သဗ္ဗဒုက္ခဝီတိဝဋ္ဋေ ပညာပယမာနော ပညာပေယျာ”တိ?
Does the ear … nose … tongue … body exist …? Does the mind exist by which they could be described?”
