12. Bound for Loss
ပဌမသောစေယျသုတ္တ
Purity (1st)
“တီဏိမာနိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သောစေယျာနိ၊ ကတမာနိ တီဏိ? ကာယသောစေယျံ, ဝစီသောစေယျံ, မနောသောစေယျံ၊
“Bhikkhus, there are these three kinds of purity. What three? Purity of body, speech, and mind.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ကာယသောစေယျံ? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧကစ္စော ပါဏာတိပါတာ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ, အဒိန္နာဒါနာ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ, ကာမေသုမိစ္ဆာစာရာ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ကာယသောစေယျံ၊
And what is purity of body? It’s when someone doesn’t kill living creatures, steal, or commit sexual misconduct. This is called ‘purity of body’.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဝစီသောစေယျံ? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧကစ္စော မုသာဝါဒါ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ, ပိသုဏာယ ဝါစာယ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ, ဖရုသာယ ဝါစာယ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ, သမ္ဖပ္ပလာပါ ပဋိဝိရတော ဟောတိ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဝစီသောစေယျံ၊
And what is purity of speech? It’s when someone doesn’t use speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. This is called ‘purity of speech’.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, မနောသောစေယျံ? ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧကစ္စော အနဘိဇ္ဈာလု ဟောတိ အဗျာပန္နစိတ္တော သမ္မာဒိဋ္ဌိကော၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, မနောသောစေယျံ၊
And what is purity of mind? It’s when someone is content, kind-hearted, and has right view. This is called ‘purity of mind’.
ဣမာနိ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, တီဏိ သောစေယျာနီ”တိ၊
These are the three kinds of purity.”
