သာဝတ္ထိယံ ဝိဟရတိ၊
At Sāvatthī.
တေန ခေါ ပန သမယေန အညတရော နဝေါ ဘိက္ခု ပစ္ဆာဘတ္တံ ပိဏ္ဍပါတပဋိက္ကန္တော ဝိဟာရံ ပဝိသိတွာ အပ္ပေါဿုက္ကော တုဏှီဘူတော သင်္ကသာယတိ, န ဘိက္ခူနံ ဝေယျာဝစ္စံ ကရောတိ စီဝရကာရသမယေ၊ အထ ခေါ သမ္ဗဟုလာ ဘိက္ခူ ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိံသု; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ နိသီဒိံသု၊ ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နာ ခေါ တေ ဘိက္ခူ ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစုံ: “ဣဓ, ဘန္တေ, အညတရော နဝေါ ဘိက္ခု ပစ္ဆာဘတ္တံ ပိဏ္ဍပါတပဋိက္ကန္တော ဝိဟာရံ ပဝိသိတွာ အပ္ပေါဿုက္ကော တုဏှီဘူတော သင်္ကသာယတိ, န ဘိက္ခူနံ ဝေယျာဝစ္စံ ကရောတိ စီဝရကာရသမယေ”တိ၊
Now at that time a certain junior monk, after his meal, on his return from almsround, entered his dwelling, where he adhered to passivity and silence. And he didn’t help the bhikkhus out when it was time to sew robes. Then several bhikkhus went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and told him what had happened.
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ အညတရံ ဘိက္ခုံ အာမန္တေသိ: “ဧဟိ တွံ, ဘိက္ခု, မမ ဝစနေန တံ ဘိက္ခုံ အာမန္တေဟိ ‘သတ္ထာ တံ, အာဝုသော, အာမန္တေတီ'”တိ၊
So the Buddha addressed a certain monk, “Please, monk, in my name tell that monk that the Teacher summons him.”
“ဧဝံ, ဘန္တေ”တိ ခေါ သော ဘိက္ခု ဘဂဝတော ပဋိဿုတွာ ယေန သော ဘိက္ခု တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ တံ ဘိက္ခုံ ဧတဒဝေါစ: “သတ္ထာ တံ, အာဝုသော, အာမန္တေတီ”တိ၊
“Yes, sir,” that monk replied. He went to that monk and said to him, “Friend, the teacher summons you.”
“ဧဝမာဝုသော”တိ ခေါ သော ဘိက္ခု တဿ ဘိက္ခုနော ပဋိဿုတွာ ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ ဘဂဝန္တံ အဘိဝါဒေတွာ ဧကမန္တံ နိသီဒိ၊ ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နံ ခေါ တံ ဘိက္ခုံ ဘဂဝါ ဧတဒဝေါစ:
“Yes, friend,” that monk replied. He went to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to him:
“သစ္စံ ကိရ တွံ, ဘိက္ခု, ပစ္ဆာဘတ္တံ ပိဏ္ဍပါတပဋိက္ကန္တော ဝိဟာရံ ပဝိသိတွာ အပ္ပေါဿုက္ကော တုဏှီဘူတော သင်္ကသာယသိ, န ဘိက္ခူနံ ဝေယျာဝစ္စံ ကရောသိ စီဝရကာရသမယေ”တိ?
“Is it really true, monk, that after your meal, on your return from almsround, you entered your dwelling, where you adhered to passivity and silence, and you didn’t help the bhikkhus out when it was time to sew robes?”
“အဟမ္ပိ ခေါ, ဘန္တေ, သကံ ကိစ္စံ ကရောမီ”တိ၊
“Sir, I am doing my own work.”
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ တဿ ဘိက္ခုနော စေတသာ စေတောပရိဝိတက္ကမညာယ ဘိက္ခူ အာမန္တေသိ: “မာ ခေါ တုမှေ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧတဿ ဘိက္ခုနော ဥဇ္ဈာယိတ္ထ၊ ဧသော ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဘိက္ခု စတုန္နံ ဈာနာနံ အာဘိစေတသိကာနံ ဒိဋ္ဌဓမ္မသုခဝိဟာရာနံ နိကာမလာဘီ အကိစ္ဆလာဘီ အကသိရလာဘီ, ယဿ စတ္ထာယ ကုလပုတ္တာ သမ္မဒေဝ အဂါရသ္မာ အနဂါရိယံ ပဗ္ဗဇန္တိ, တဒနုတ္တရံ ဗြဟ္မစရိယပရိယောသာနံ ဒိဋ္ဌေဝ ဓမ္မေ သယံ အဘိညာ သစ္ဆိကတွာ ဥပသမ္ပဇ္ဇ ဝိဟရတီ”တိ၊
Then the Buddha, knowing what that monk was thinking, addressed the bhikkhus: “Bhikkhus, don’t complain about this monk. This monk gets the four jhānas—pleasant meditations in the present life that belong to the higher mind—when he wants, without trouble or difficulty. He has realized the supreme culmination of the spiritual path in this very life, and lives having achieved with his own insight the goal for which gentlemen rightly go forth from the lay life to homelessness.”
ဣဒမဝေါစ ဘဂဝါ၊ ဣဒံ ဝတွာန သုဂတော အထာပရံ ဧတဒဝေါစ သတ္ထာ:
That is what the Buddha said. Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:
“နယိဒံ သိထိလမာရဗ္ဘ, နယိဒံ အပ္ပေန ထာမသာ; နိဗ္ဗာနံ အဓိဂန္တဗ္ဗံ, သဗ္ဗဒုက္ခပ္ပမောစနံ၊
“Not by being slack, or with little strength is Nibbana realized, the freedom from all suffering.
အယဉ္စ ဒဟရော ဘိက္ခု, အယမုတ္တမပုရိသော; ဓာရေတိ အန္တိမံ ဒေဟံ, ဇေတွာ မာရံ သဝါဟိနိန်”တိ၊
This young monk, this best of men, bears his final body, having vanquished Māra and his mount.”
