ඒකං සමයං භගවා කෝසම්බියං විහරති ඝෝසිතාරාමේ. අථ ඛෝ ආයස්මා ආනන්දෝ යේන භගවා තේනුපසඞ්කමි; උපසඞ්කමිත්වා භගවන්තං අභිවාදේත්වා ඒකමන්තං නිසීදි. ඒකමන්තං නිසින්නෝ ඛෝ ආයස්මා ආනන්දෝ භගවන්තං ඒතදවෝච:
At one time the Buddha was staying near Kosambī, in Ghosita’s Monastery. Then Venerable Ānanda went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:
“කෝ නු ඛෝ, භන්තේ, හේතු කෝ පච්චයෝ, යේන මාතුගාමෝ නේව සභායං නිසීදති, න කම්මන්තං පයෝජේති, න කම්බෝජං ගච්ඡතී”ති?
“Sir, what is the cause, what is the reason why females don’t attend council meetings, work for a living, or travel to Persia?”
“කෝධනෝ, ආනන්ද, මාතුගාමෝ; ඉස්සුකී, ආනන්ද, මාතුගාමෝ; මච්ඡරී, ආනන්ද, මාතුගාමෝ; දුප්පඤ්ඤෝ, ආනන්ද, මාතුගාමෝ—අයං ඛෝ, ආනන්ද, හේතු අයං පච්චයෝ, යේන මාතුගාමෝ නේව සභායං නිසීදති, න කම්මන්තං පයෝජේති, න කම්බෝජං ගච්ඡතී”ති.
“Ānanda, females are irritable, jealous, stingy, and unintelligent. This is the cause, this is the reason why females don’t attend council meetings, work for a living, or travel to Persia.”

තස්සුද්දානං
පධානං දිට්ඨිසප්පුරිස, වධුකා ද්වේ ච හෝන්ති අග්ගානි; කුසිනාරඅචින්තේය්යා, දක්ඛිණා ච වණිජ්ජා කම්බෝජන්ති.
