สาวตฺถินิทานํฯ
At Sāvatthī.
เอกมนฺตํ นิสินฺนํ โข อายสฺมนฺตํ ราธํ ภควา เอตทโวจ:
When Venerable Rādha was seated to one side, the Buddha said to him:
“ปญฺจิเม, ราธ, อุปาทานกฺขนฺธาฯ กตเม ปญฺจ? รูปุปาทานกฺขนฺโธ …เป… วิญฺญาณุปาทานกฺขนฺโธฯ
“Rādha, there are these five grasping aggregates. What five? The grasping aggregates of form, feeling, perception, functioning patterns, and consciousness.
เย หิ เกจิ, ราธ, สมณา วา พฺราหฺมณา วา อิเมสํ ปญฺจนฺนํ อุปาทานกฺขนฺธานํ สมุทยญฺจ อตฺถงฺคมญฺจ อสฺสาทญฺจ อาทีนวญฺจ นิสฺสรณญฺจ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติ …เป…
There are ascetics and brahmins who don’t truly understand these five grasping aggregates’ origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape … Those venerables don’t realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin …
สยํ อภิญฺญา สจฺฉิกตฺวา อุปสมฺปชฺช วิหรนฺตี”ติฯ
There are ascetics and brahmins who do truly understand … Those venerables realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and live having realized it with their own insight.”
