ทฏฺฐพฺพสุตฺต
Should Be Seen
“ปญฺจิมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, อินฺทฺริยานิฯ กตมานิ ปญฺจ? สทฺธินฺทฺริยํ …เป… ปญฺญินฺทฺริยํฯ
“Bhikkhus, there are these five faculties. What five? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, samādhi, and wisdom.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ โสตาปตฺติยงฺเคสุ—เอตฺถ สทฺธินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the faculty of faith be seen? In the four factors of stream-entry.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, วีริยินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ สมฺมปฺปธาเนสุ—เอตฺถ วีริยินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the faculty of energy be seen? In the four right efforts.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, สตินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ สติปฏฺฐาเนสุ—เอตฺถ สตินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the faculty of mindfulness be seen? In the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, สมาธินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ ฌาเนสุ—เอตฺถ สมาธินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the faculty of samādhi be seen? In the four jhānas.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺญินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ อริยสจฺเจสุ—เอตฺถ ปญฺญินฺทฺริยํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the faculty of wisdom be seen? In the four noble truths.
อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจินฺทฺริยานี”ติฯ
These are the five faculties.”
