Faithless
“ปญฺจหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต เถโร ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ อปฺปิโย จ โหติ, อมนาโป จ อครุ จ อภาวนีโย จฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ? อสฺสทฺโธ โหติ, อหิริโก โหติ, อโนตฺตปฺปี โหติ, กุสีโต โหติ, ทุปฺปญฺโญ โหติ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต เถโร ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ อปฺปิโย จ โหติ อมนาโป จ อครุ จ อภาวนีโย จฯ
“Bhikkhus, a senior bhikkhu with five qualities is unlikable and unlovable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired. What five? They’re faithless, shameless, imprudent, lazy, and witless. A senior bhikkhu with these five qualities is unlikable and unlovable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired.
ปญฺจหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต เถโร ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ ปิโย จ โหติ มนาโป จ ครุ จ ภาวนีโย จฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ? สทฺโธ โหติ, หิรีมา โหติ, โอตฺตปฺปี โหติ, อารทฺธวีริโย โหติ, ปญฺญวา โหติ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต เถโร ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ ปิโย จ โหติ มนาโป จ ครุ จ ภาวนีโย จา”ติฯ
A senior bhikkhu with five qualities is dear and beloved to their spiritual companions, respected and admired. What five? They’re faithful, conscientious, prudent, energetic, and wise. A senior bhikkhu with these five qualities is dear and beloved to their spiritual companions, respected and admired.”
