A Question About Defilements
“‘อาสโว, อาสโว'ติ, อาวุโส สาริปุตฺต, วุจฺจติฯ กตโม นุ โข, อาวุโส, อาสโว”ติ?
“Friend Sāriputta, they speak of this thing called ‘defilement’. What is defilement?”
“ตโย เม, อาวุโส, อาสวาฯ กามาสโว, ภวาสโว, อวิชฺชาสโว—อิเม โข, อาวุโส, ตโย อาสวา”ติฯ
“Friend, there are three defilements. The defilements of sensuality, desire to be reborn, and ignorance. These are the three defilements.”
“อตฺถิ ปนาวุโส, มคฺโค อตฺถิ ปฏิปทา เอเตสํ อาสวานํ ปหานายา”ติ?
“But, friend, is there a path and a practice for completely understanding these three defilements?”
“อตฺถิ โข, อาวุโส, มคฺโค อตฺถิ ปฏิปทา เอเตสํ อาสวานํ ปหานายา”ติฯ
“There is.” …
