๗ฯ สุขวคฺค
The Chapter on Happiness
64
“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? คิหิสุขญฺจ ปพฺพชิตสุขญฺจฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ ปพฺพชิตสุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? The happiness of laypeople, and the happiness of renunciates. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of renunciates.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? กามสุขญฺจ เนกฺขมฺมสุขญฺจฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ เนกฺขมฺมสุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Sensual happiness and the happiness of renunciation. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of renunciation.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? อุปธิสุขญฺจ นิรุปธิสุขญฺจฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ นิรุปธิสุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? The happiness of attachments, and the happiness of no attachments. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of no attachments.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? สาสวสุขญฺจ อนาสวสุขญฺจฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ อนาสวสุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Defiled happiness and undefiled happiness. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of no defilements.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? สามิสญฺจ สุขํ นิรามิสญฺจ สุขํฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ นิรามิสํ สุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Happiness of the flesh and happiness not of the flesh. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness not of the flesh.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? อริยสุขญฺจ อนริยสุขญฺจฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ อริยสุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Noble happiness and ignoble happiness. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is noble happiness.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? กายิกญฺจ สุขํ เจตสิกญฺจ สุขํฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ เจตสิกํ สุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Physical happiness and mental happiness. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is mental happiness.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? สปฺปีติกญฺจ สุขํ นิปฺปีติกญฺจ สุขํฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ นิปฺปีติกํ สุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? (Bodily) pleasure with (mental) joy and (bodily) pleasure free of (mental) joy. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of (bodily) pleasure is (bodily) pleasure free of (mental) joy.”

“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Happiness with pleasure and happiness with equanimity. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness with equanimity.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? สมาธิสุขญฺจ อสมาธิสุขญฺจฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ สมาธิสุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? The happiness of samādhi and the happiness without samādhi. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of samādhi.”

“เทฺวมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สุขานิฯ กตมานิ เทฺว? สปฺปีติการมฺมณญฺจ สุขํ นิปฺปีติการมฺมณญฺจ สุขํฯ อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, เทฺว สุขานิฯ เอตทคฺคํ, ภิกฺขเว, อิเมสํ ทฺวินฺนํ สุขานํ ยทิทํ นิปฺปีติการมฺมณํ สุขนฺ”ติฯ
“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? (Bodily) pleasure that relies on (mental) joy and (bodily) pleasure that relies on freedom from (mental) joy. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of (bodily) pleasure is (bodily) pleasure that relies on freedom from (mental) joy.”

“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Happiness that relies on pleasure and happiness that relies on equanimity. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on equanimity.”

“There are, bhikkhus, these two kinds of happiness. What two? Happiness that relies on form and happiness that relies on the formless. These are the two kinds of happiness. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on the formless.”
