Beautification
“จตฺตาโรเม, ภิกฺขเว, วิยตฺตา วินีตา วิสารทา พหุสฺสุตา ธมฺมธรา ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฺปฏิปนฺนา สงฺฆํ โสเภนฺติฯ กตเม จตฺตาโร? ภิกฺขุ, ภิกฺขเว, วิยตฺโต วินีโต วิสารโท พหุสฺสุโต ธมฺมธโร ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฺปฏิปนฺโน สงฺฆํ โสเภติฯ ภิกฺขุนี, ภิกฺขเว, วิยตฺตา วินีตา วิสารทา พหุสฺสุตา ธมฺมธรา ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฺปฏิปนฺนา สงฺฆํ โสเภติฯ อุปาสโก, ภิกฺขเว, วิยตฺโต วินีโต วิสารโท พหุสฺสุโต ธมฺมธโร ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฺปฏิปนฺโน สงฺฆํ โสเภติฯ อุปาสิกา, ภิกฺขเว, วิยตฺตา วินีตา วิสารทา พหุสฺสุตา ธมฺมธรา ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฺปฏิปนฺนา สงฺฆํ โสเภติฯ
“Bhikkhus, these four competent, educated, assured, learned people—who have memorized the teachings and practice in line with the teachings—beautify the Saṅgha. What four? A monk, a nun, a layman, and a laywoman.
อิเม โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตฺตาโร วิยตฺตา วินีตา วิสารทา พหุสฺสุตา ธมฺมธรา ธมฺมานุธมฺมปฺปฏิปนฺนา สงฺฆํ โสเภนฺตีติฯ
These four competent, educated, assured, learned people—who have memorized the teachings and practice in line with the teachings—beautify the Saṅgha.
โย โหติ วิยตฺโต จ วิสารโท จ, พหุสฺสุโต ธมฺมธโร จ โหติ; ธมฺมสฺส โหติ อนุธมฺมจารี, ส ตาทิโส วุจฺจติ สงฺฆโสภโนฯ
Whoever is competent and assured, learned, a memorizer of the teachings, who lives in line with the teachings—such a person is said to beautify the Saṅgha.
ภิกฺขุ จ สีลสมฺปนฺโน, ภิกฺขุนี จ พหุสฺสุตา; อุปาสโก จ โย สทฺโธ, ยา จ สทฺธา อุปาสิกา; เอเต โข สงฺฆํ โสเภนฺติ, เอเต หิ สงฺฆโสภนา”ติฯ
A monk accomplished in ethics, and a learned nun, a faithful layman, and a faithful laywoman, too: these beautify the Saṅgha, they are the beautifiers of the Saṅgha.”
