Chapter Two
សនង្កុមារសុត្ត
With Sanaṅkumāra
ឯវំ មេ សុតំ—ឯកំ សមយំ ភគវា រាជគហេ វិហរតិ សប្បិនីតីរេ។
So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, on the bank of the Sappinī river.
អថ ខោ ព្រហ្មា សនង្កុមារោ អភិក្កន្តាយ រត្តិយា អភិក្កន្តវណ្ណោ កេវលកប្បំ សប្បិនីតីរំ ឱភាសេត្វា យេន ភគវា តេនុបសង្កមិ; ឧបសង្កមិត្វា ភគវន្តំ អភិវាទេត្វា ឯកមន្តំ អដ្ឋាសិ។ ឯកមន្តំ ឋិតោ ខោ ព្រហ្មា សនង្កុមារោ ភគវតោ សន្តិកេ ឥមំ គាថំ អភាសិ:
Then, late at night, the beautiful Brahmā Sanaṅkumāra, lighting up the entire Sappinī riverbank, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“ខត្តិយោ សេដ្ឋោ ជនេតស្មិំ, យេ គោត្តបដិសារិនោ; វិជ្ជាចរណសម្បន្នោ, សោ សេដ្ឋោ ទេវមានុសេ”តិ។
“The khattiya class is best among people who take clan as the standard. But one accomplished in knowledge and conduct is best among gods and humans.”
ឥទមវោច ព្រហ្មា សនង្កុមារោ។ សមនុញ្ញោ សត្ថា អហោសិ។ អថ ខោ ព្រហ្មា សនង្កុមារោ “សមនុញ្ញោ មេ សត្ថា”តិ ភគវន្តំ អភិវាទេត្វា បទក្ខិណំ កត្វា តត្ថេវន្តរធាយីតិ។
That’s what Brahmā Sanaṅkumāra said, and the teacher approved. Then Brahmā Sanaṅkumāra, knowing that the teacher approved, bowed and respectfully circled the Buddha, keeping him on his right, before vanishing right there.
