“สมาธึ, ภิกฺขเว, ภาเวถฯ สมาหิโต, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติฯ กิญฺจ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ? ‘อิทํ ทุกฺขนฺ'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ, ‘อยํ ทุกฺขสมุทโย'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ, ‘อยํ ทุกฺขนิโรโธ'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติ, ‘อยํ ทุกฺขนิโรธคามินี ปฏิปทา'ติ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติฯ สมาธึ, ภิกฺขเว, ภาเวถฯ สมาหิโต, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ยถาภูตํ ปชานาติฯ
“Bhikkhus, develop samādhi. A bhikkhu who has samādhi truly understands. What do they truly understand? They truly understand: ‘This is suffering’ … ‘This is the origin of suffering’ … ‘This is the cessation of suffering’ … ‘This is the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering’. Develop samādhi. A bhikkhu who has samādhi truly understands.
ตสฺมาติห, ภิกฺขเว, ‘อิทํ ทุกฺขนฺ'ติ โยโค กรณีโย, ‘อยํ ทุกฺขสมุทโย'ติ โยโค กรณีโย, ‘อยํ ทุกฺขนิโรโธ'ติ โยโค กรณีโย, ‘อยํ ทุกฺขนิโรธคามินี ปฏิปทา'ติ โยโค กรณีโย”ติฯ
That’s why you should practice meditation to understand: ‘This is suffering’ … ‘This is the origin of suffering’ … ‘This is the cessation of suffering’ … ‘This is the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering’.”
