နခသိခသုတ္တ
A Fingernail
သာဝတ္ထိယံ ဝိဟရတိ၊
At Sāvatthī.
အထ ခေါ ဘဂဝါ ပရိတ္တံ နခသိခါယံ ပံသုံ အာရောပေတွာ ဘိက္ခူ အာမန္တေသိ: “တံ ကိံ မညထ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ကတမံ နု ခေါ ဗဟုတရံ, ယော စာယံ မယာ ပရိတ္တော နခသိခါယံ ပံသု အာရောပိတော ယာ စာယံ မဟာပထဝီ”တိ?
Then the Buddha, picking up a little bit of dirt under his fingernail, addressed the bhikkhus: “What do you think, bhikkhus? Which is more: the little bit of dirt under my fingernail, or this great earth?”
“ဧတဒေဝ, ဘန္တေ, ဗဟုတရံ ယဒိဒံ မဟာပထဝီ၊ အပ္ပမတ္တကောယံ ဘဂဝတာ ပရိတ္တော နခသိခါယံ ပံသု အာရောပိတော၊ သင်္ခမ္ပိ န ဥပေတိ ဥပနိဓိမ္ပိ န ဥပေတိ ကလဘာဂမ္ပိ န ဥပေတိ မဟာပထဝိံ ဥပနိဓာယ ဘဂဝတာ ပရိတ္တော နခသိခါယံ ပံသု အာရောပိတော”တိ၊
“Sir, the great earth is far more. The little bit of dirt under your fingernail is tiny. Compared to the great earth, it doesn’t count, there’s no comparison, it’s not worth a fraction.”
“ဧဝမေဝ ခေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အပ္ပကာ တေ သတ္တာ ယေ မနုဿေသု ပစ္စာဇာယန္တိ; အထ ခေါ ဧတေယေဝ ဗဟုတရာ သတ္တာ ယေ အညတြ မနုဿေဟိ ပစ္စာဇာယန္တိ၊
“In the same way the sentient beings reborn as humans are few, while those not reborn as humans are many.
တသ္မာတိဟ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဧဝံ သိက္ခိတဗ္ဗံ: ‘အပ္ပမတ္တာ ဝိဟရိဿာမာ'တိ၊ ဧဝဉှိ ဝေါ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သိက္ခိတဗ္ဗန်”တိ၊
So you should train like this: ‘We will stay diligent.’ That’s how you should train.”
