Kaṇhamaggasutta
The Dark Path
“कण्हमग्गञ्च वो, भिक्खवे, देसेस्सामि सुक्कमग्गञ्च। तं सुणाथ …पे… कतमो च, भिक्खवे, कण्हो मग्गो? पाणातिपातो …पे… मिच्छादिट्ठि—अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, कण्हो मग्गो।
“Kaṇhamaggañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi sukkamaggañca. Taṁ suṇātha …pe… katamo ca, bhikkhave, kaṇho maggo? Pāṇātipāto …pe… micchādiṭṭhi—ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, kaṇho maggo.
“I will teach you the dark path and the bright path. … And what is the dark path? Killing living creatures … wrong view. This is called the dark path.
कतमो च, भिक्खवे, सुक्को मग्गो? पाणातिपाता वेरमणी …पे… सम्मादिट्ठि—अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, सुक्को मग्गो”ति।
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sukko maggo? Pāṇātipātā veramaṇī …pe… sammādiṭṭhi—ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sukko maggo”ti.
And what is the bright path? Not killing living creatures … right view. This is called the bright path.”
