The Noble Path
“अरियमग्गञ्च वो, भिक्खवे, देसेस्सामि अनरियमग्गञ्च। तं सुणाथ …पे… कतमो च, भिक्खवे, अनरियो मग्गो? पाणातिपातो …पे… मिच्छादिट्ठि—अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, अनरियो मग्गो।
“Ariyamaggañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi anariyamaggañca. Taṁ suṇātha …pe… katamo ca, bhikkhave, anariyo maggo? Pāṇātipāto …pe… micchādiṭṭhi—ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, anariyo maggo.
“I will teach you the noble path and the ignoble path. … And what is the ignoble path? Killing living creatures … wrong view. This is called the ignoble path.
कतमो च, भिक्खवे, अरियो मग्गो? पाणातिपाता वेरमणी …पे… सम्मादिट्ठि—अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, अरियो मग्गो”ति।
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, ariyo maggo? Pāṇātipātā veramaṇī …pe… sammādiṭṭhi—ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, ariyo maggo”ti.
And what is the noble path? Not killing living creatures … right view. This is called the noble path.”
