Awake
สาวตฺถินิทานํฯ
At Sāvatthī.
เอกมนฺตํ ฐิตา โข สา เทวตา ภควโต สนฺติเก อิมํ คาถํ อภาสิ:
Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“กติ ชาครตํ สุตฺตา, กติ สุตฺเตสุ ชาครา; กติภิ รชมาเทติ, กติภิ ปริสุชฺฌตี”ติฯ
“How many sleep while others wake? How many wake among the sleeping? By how many do you gather dust? By how many are you cleansed?”
“ปญฺจ ชาครตํ สุตฺตา, ปญฺจ สุตฺเตสุ ชาครา; ปญฺจภิ รชมาเทติ, ปญฺจภิ ปริสุชฺฌตี”ติฯ
“Five sleep while others wake. Five wake among the sleeping. By five you gather dust. By five you’re cleansed.”
