อรหนฺตสุตฺต
A Perfected One
“ฉยิมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, อินฺทฺริยานิฯ กตมานิ ฉ? จกฺขุนฺทฺริยํ, โสตินฺทฺริยํ, ฆานินฺทฺริยํ, ชิวฺหินฺทฺริยํ, กายินฺทฺริยํ, มนินฺทฺริยํฯ ยโต โข, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ อิเมสํ ฉนฺนํ อินฺทฺริยานํ สมุทยญฺจ อตฺถงฺคมญฺจ อสฺสาทญฺจ อาทีนวญฺจ นิสฺสรณญฺจ ยถาภูตํ วิทิตฺวา อนุปาทาวิมุตฺโต โหติ—
“Bhikkhus, there are these six faculties. What six? The faculties of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. A bhikkhu comes to be freed by not grasping after truly understanding these six faculties’ origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape.
อยํ วุจฺจติ, ภิกฺขเว, ‘ภิกฺขุ อรหํ ขีณาสโว วุสิตวา กตกรณีโย โอหิตภาโร อนุปฺปตฺตสทตฺโถ ปริกฺขีณภวสํโยชโน สมฺมทญฺญาวิมุตฺโต'”ติฯ
Such a bhikkhu is called a perfected one, with defilements ended, who has completed the spiritual journey, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, achieved their own true goal, utterly ended the fetters of rebirth, and is rightly freed through enlightenment.”
