At Sāvatthī.
အထ ခေါ အညတရော ဘိက္ခု ယေန ဘဂဝါ တေနုပသင်္ကမိ; ဥပသင်္ကမိတွာ …ပေ… ဧကမန္တံ နိသိန္နော ခေါ သော ဘိက္ခု ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ:
Then a bhikkhu went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:
“‘အဝိဇ္ဇာ, အဝိဇ္ဇာ'တိ, ဘန္တေ, ဝုစ္စတိ၊ ကတမာ နု ခေါ, ဘန္တေ, အဝိဇ္ဇာ; ကိတ္တာဝတာ စ အဝိဇ္ဇာဂတော ဟောတီ”တိ?
“Sir, they speak of this thing called ‘ignorance’. What is ignorance? And how is an ignorant person defined?”
“ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခု, အဿုတဝါ ပုထုဇ္ဇနော သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ရူပံ ‘သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ရူပန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; ဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပံ ‘ဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပံ ‘သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ၊
“Bhikkhu, it’s when an unlearned ordinary person doesn’t truly understand form, which is liable to originate, as form which is liable to originate. They don’t truly understand form, which is liable to vanish, as form which is liable to vanish. They don’t truly understand form, which is liable to originate and vanish, as form which is liable to originate and vanish.
သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ဝေဒနံ ‘သမုဒယဓမ္မာ ဝေဒနာ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; ဝယဓမ္မံ ဝေဒနံ ‘ဝယဓမ္မာ ဝေဒနာ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ဝေဒနံ ‘သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မာ ဝေဒနာ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ၊ သမုဒယဓမ္မံ သညံ …ပေ… သမုဒယဓမ္မေ သင်္ခါရေ ‘သမုဒယဓမ္မာ သင်္ခါရာ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; ဝယဓမ္မေ သင်္ခါရေ ‘ဝယဓမ္မာ သင်္ခါရာ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မေ သင်္ခါရေ ‘သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မာ သင်္ခါရာ'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ၊ သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ဝိညာဏံ ‘သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ဝိညာဏန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; ဝယဓမ္မံ ဝိညာဏံ ‘ဝယဓမ္မံ ဝိညာဏန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ; သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ဝိညာဏံ ‘သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ဝိညာဏန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ နပ္ပဇာနာတိ၊
They don’t truly understand feeling … perception … functioning patterns … consciousness, which is liable to originate, as consciousness which is liable to originate. They don’t truly understand consciousness, which is liable to vanish, as consciousness which is liable to vanish. They don’t truly understand consciousness, which is liable to originate and vanish, as consciousness which is liable to originate and vanish.
အယံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခု, အဝိဇ္ဇာ; ဧတ္တာဝတာ စ အဝိဇ္ဇာဂတော ဟောတီ”တိ၊
This is called ignorance. And this is how an ignorant person is defined.”
ဧဝံ ဝုတ္တေ, သော ဘိက္ခု ဘဂဝန္တံ ဧတဒဝေါစ:
When he said this, the bhikkhu said to the Buddha:
“‘ဝိဇ္ဇာ, ဝိဇ္ဇာ'တိ, ဘန္တေ, ဝုစ္စတိ၊ ကတမာ နု ခေါ, ဘန္တေ, ဝိဇ္ဇာ; ကိတ္တာဝတာ စ ဝိဇ္ဇာဂတော ဟောတီ”တိ?
“Sir, they speak of this thing called ‘knowledge’. What is knowledge? And how is a knowledgeable person defined?”
“ဣဓ, ဘိက္ခု, သုတဝါ အရိယသာဝကော သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ရူပံ ‘သမုဒယဓမ္မံ ရူပန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ ပဇာနာတိ; ဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပံ ‘ဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ ပဇာနာတိ; သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပံ ‘သမုဒယဝယဓမ္မံ ရူပန်'တိ ယထာဘူတံ ပဇာနာတိ၊
“Bhikkhu, it’s when a learned noble disciple truly understands form, which is liable to originate, as form which is liable to originate. They truly understand form, which is liable to vanish, as form which is liable to vanish. They truly understand form, which is liable to originate and vanish, as form which is liable to originate and vanish.
