Valuing Anger
“จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ นิรเยฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? โกธครุ โหติ น สทฺธมฺมครุ, มกฺขครุ โหติ น สทฺธมฺมครุ, ลาภครุ โหติ น สทฺธมฺมครุ, สกฺการครุ โหติ น สทฺธมฺมครุ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ นิรเยฯ
“Bhikkhus, someone with four qualities is cast down to hell. What four? They value anger, or denigration, or material possessions, or honor rather than the true teaching. Someone with these four qualities is cast down to hell.
จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ สคฺเคฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? สทฺธมฺมครุ โหติ น โกธครุ, สทฺธมฺมครุ โหติ น มกฺขครุ, สทฺธมฺมครุ โหติ น ลาภครุ, สทฺธมฺมครุ โหติ น สกฺการครุ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ยถาภตํ นิกฺขิตฺโต เอวํ สคฺเค”ติฯ
Someone with four qualities is raised up to heaven. What four? They value the true teaching rather than anger, or denigration, or material possessions, or honor. Someone with these four qualities is raised up to heaven.”
