“อฏฺฐหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ อปฺปิโย จ โหติ อมนาโป จ อครุ จ อภาวนีโย จฯ กตเมหิ อฏฺฐหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ลาภกาโม จ โหติ, สกฺการกาโม จ, อนวญฺญตฺติกาโม จ, อกาลญฺญู จ, อมตฺตญฺญู จ, อสุจิ จ, พหุภาณี จ, อกฺโกสกปริภาสโก จ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, อฏฺฐหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ อปฺปิโย จ โหติ อมนาโป จ อครุ จ อภาวนีโย จฯ
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with eight qualities is disliked and disapproved by their spiritual companions, not respected or admired. What eight? It’s when a bhikkhu desires material possessions, honor, and to be looked up to. They know neither moderation nor the proper time. Their conduct is impure, they talk a lot, and they insult and abuse their spiritual companions. A bhikkhu with these eight qualities is disliked and disapproved by their spiritual companions, not respected or admired.
อฏฺฐหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ ปิโย จ โหติ มนาโป จ ครุ จ ภาวนีโย จฯ กตเมหิ อฏฺฐหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ น ลาภกาโม จ โหติ, น สกฺการกาโม จ, น อนวญฺญตฺติกาโม จ, กาลญฺญู จ, มตฺตญฺญู จ, สุจิ จ, น พหุภาณี จ, อนกฺโกสกปริภาสโก จ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, อฏฺฐหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ สพฺรหฺมจารีนํ ปิโย จ โหติ มนาโป จ ครุ จ ภาวนีโย จา”ติฯ
A bhikkhu with eight qualities is liked and approved by their spiritual companions, and respected and admired. What eight? It’s when a bhikkhu doesn’t desire material possessions, honor, and to be looked up to. They know moderation and the proper time. Their conduct is pure, they don’t talk a lot, and they don’t insult and abuse their spiritual companions. A bhikkhu with these eight qualities is liked and approved by their spiritual companions, and respected and admired.”
