The Root of Misery
သာဝတ္ထိနိဒါနံ၊
At Sāvatthī.
“အဃဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဒေသေဿာမိ အဃမူလဉ္စ၊ တံ သုဏာထ၊
“Bhikkhus, I will teach you misery and the root of misery. Listen …
ကတမဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဃံ? ရူပံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဃံ, ဝေဒနာ အဃံ, သညာ အဃံ, သင်္ခါရာ အဃံ, ဝိညာဏံ အဃံ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဃံ၊
And what is misery? Form, feeling, perception, functioning patterns, and consciousness are misery. This is called misery.
ကတမဉ္စ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဃမူလံ? ယာယံ တဏှာ ပေါနောဘဝိကာ နန္ဒီရာဂသဟဂတာ တတြတတြာဘိနန္ဒိနီ; သေယျထိဒံ—ကာမတဏှာ, ဘဝတဏှာ, ဝိဘဝတဏှာ၊ ဣဒံ ဝုစ္စတိ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဃမူလန်”တိ၊
And what is the root of misery? It’s the craving that leads to future lives, mixed up with relishing and greed, taking pleasure wherever it lands. That is, craving for sensual pleasures, craving to continue existence, and craving to end existence. This is called the root of misery.”
