The Thoroughbred (3rd)
“ฉหิ, ภิกฺขเว, องฺเคหิ สมนฺนาคโต รญฺโญ ภโทฺร อสฺสาชานีโย ราชารโห โหติ ราชโภคฺโค, รญฺโญ องฺคนฺเตฺวว สงฺขํ คจฺฉติฯ กตเมหิ ฉหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, รญฺโญ ภโทฺร อสฺสาชานีโย ขโม โหติ รูปานํ, ขโม สทฺทานํ, ขโม คนฺธานํ, ขโม รสานํ, ขโม โผฏฺฐพฺพานํ, ชวสมฺปนฺโน จ โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ฉหิ องฺเคหิ สมนฺนาคโต รญฺโญ ภโทฺร อสฺสาชานีโย ราชารโห โหติ ราชโภคฺโค, รญฺโญ องฺคนฺเตฺวว สงฺขํ คจฺฉติฯ
“Bhikkhus, a fine royal thoroughbred with six factors is worthy of a king, fit to serve a king, and is considered a factor of kingship. What six? It’s when a fine royal thoroughbred can endure sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches. And it’s fast. A fine royal thoroughbred with these six factors is worthy of a king, fit to serve a king, and is considered a factor of kingship.
เอวเมวํ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ฉหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อาหุเนโยฺย โหติ …เป… อนุตฺตรํ ปุญฺญกฺเขตฺตํ โลกสฺสฯ กตเมหิ ฉหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ขโม โหติ รูปานํ …เป… ขโม ธมฺมานํฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ฉหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อาหุเนโยฺย โหติ …เป… อนุตฺตรํ ปุญฺญกฺเขตฺตํ โลกสฺสา”ติฯ
In the same way, a bhikkhu with six qualities is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of veneration with joined palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world. What six? It’s when a bhikkhu can endure sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts. A bhikkhu with these six qualities is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of veneration with joined palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world.”
