សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
អថ ខោ សម្ពហុលា ភិក្ខូ យេន ភគវា …បេ… ឯកមន្តំ និសិន្នា ខោ តេ ភិក្ខូ ភគវន្តំ ឯតទវោចុំ: “កីវពហុកា នុ ខោ, ភន្តេ, កប្បា អព្ភតីតា អតិក្កន្តា”តិ?
Then several bhikkhus went up to the Buddha … and asked him, “Sir, how many eons have passed?”
“ពហុកា ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, កប្បា អព្ភតីតា អតិក្កន្តា។ តេ ន សុករា សង្ខាតុំ: ‘ឯត្តកា កប្បា ឥតិ វា, ឯត្តកានិ កប្បសតានិ ឥតិ វា, ឯត្តកានិ កប្បសហស្សានិ ឥតិ វា, ឯត្តកានិ កប្បសតសហស្សានិ ឥតិ វាៜ”តិ។
“Bhikkhus, many eons have passed. It’s not easy to calculate how many eons have passed, how many hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of eons.”
“សក្កា បន, ភន្តេ, ឧបមំ កាតុន៑”តិ?
“But sir, is it possible to give a simile?”
“សក្កា, ភិក្ខវេ”តិ ភគវា អវោច។
“It’s possible,” said the Buddha.
“ឥធស្សុ, ភិក្ខវេ, ចត្តារោ សាវកា វស្សសតាយុកា វស្សសតជីវិនោ។ តេ ទិវសេ ទិវសេ កប្បសតសហស្សំ កប្បសតសហស្សំ អនុស្សរេយ្យុំ។ អននុស្សរិតាវ, ភិក្ខវេ, តេហិ កប្បា អស្សុ, អថ ខោ តេ ចត្តារោ សាវកា វស្សសតាយុកា វស្សសតជីវិនោ វស្សសតស្ស អច្ចយេន កាលំ ករេយ្យុំ។ ឯវំ ពហុកា ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, កប្បា អព្ភតីតា អតិក្កន្តា។ តេ ន សុករា សង្ខាតុំ: ‘ឯត្តកា កប្បា ឥតិ វា, ឯត្តកានិ កប្បសតានិ ឥតិ វា, ឯត្តកានិ កប្បសហស្សានិ ឥតិ វា, ឯត្តកានិ កប្បសតសហស្សានិ ឥតិ វាៜតិ។
“Suppose there were four disciples with a lifespan of a hundred years. And each day they would each recollect a hundred thousand eons. Those four disciples would pass away after a hundred years and there would still be eons that they haven’t recollected. That’s how many eons have passed. It’s not easy to calculate how many eons have passed, how many hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of eons.
តំ កិស្ស ហេតុ? អនមតគ្គោយំ, ភិក្ខវេ, សំសារោ …បេ… អលំ វិមុច្ចិតុន៑”តិ។
Why is that? Transmigration has no known beginning. … This is quite enough for you to become disillusioned, dispassionate, and freed regarding all conditions.”
