“จตูหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อปณฺณกปฺปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺโน โหติ, โยนิ จสฺส อารทฺธา โหติ อาสวานํ ขยายฯ กตเมหิ จตูหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ สีลวา โหติ, พหุสฺสุโต โหติ, อารทฺธวีริโย โหติ, ปญฺญวา โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตูหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อปณฺณกปฺปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺโน โหติ, โยนิ จสฺส อารทฺธา โหติ อาสวานํ ขยายา”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu has four things their practice is guaranteed, and they have laid the groundwork for ending the defilements. What four? It’s when a bhikkhu is ethical, learned, energetic, and wise. When a bhikkhu has these four things their practice is guaranteed, and they have laid the groundwork for ending the defilements.”
