13. At Kusinārā
โคตมกเจติยสุตฺต
The Gotamaka Shrine
เอกํ สมยํ ภควา เวสาลิยํ วิหรติ โคตมเก เจติเยฯ ตตฺร โข ภควา ภิกฺขู อามนฺเตสิ: “ภิกฺขโว”ติฯ
At one time the Buddha was staying near Vesālī, at the Gotamaka Tree-shrine. There the Buddha addressed the bhikkhus, “Bhikkhus!”
“ภทนฺเต”ติ เต ภิกฺขู ภควโต ปจฺจโสฺสสุํฯ ภควา เอตทโวจ:
“Venerable sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this:
“อภิญฺญายาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมํ เทเสมิ, โน อนภิญฺญายฯ สนิทานาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมํ เทเสมิ, โน อนิทานํฯ สปฺปาฏิหาริยาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมํ เทเสมิ, โน อปฺปาฏิหาริยํฯ ตสฺส มยฺหํ, ภิกฺขเว, อภิญฺญาย ธมฺมํ เทสยโต โน อนภิญฺญาย, สนิทานํ ธมฺมํ เทสยโต โน อนิทานํ, สปฺปาฏิหาริยํ ธมฺมํ เทสยโต โน อปฺปาฏิหาริยํ, กรณีโย โอวาโท, กรณียา อนุสาสนีฯ อลญฺจ ปน โว, ภิกฺขเว, ตุฏฺฐิยา, อลํ อตฺตมนตาย, อลํ โสมนสฺสาย: ‘สมฺมาสมฺพุทฺโธ ภควา, สฺวากฺขาโต ธมฺโม, สุปฺปฏิปนฺโน สงฺโฆ'”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, I teach based on direct knowledge, not without direct knowledge. I teach with reasons, not without them. I teach with a demonstrable basis, not without it. Since this is so, you should follow my advice and instruction. This is enough for you to feel joyful, delighted, and happy: ‘The Blessed One is a fully awakened Buddha! The teaching is well explained! The Saṅgha is practicing well!’”
อิทมโวจ ภควาฯ อตฺตมนา เต ภิกฺขู ภควโต ภาสิตํ อภินนฺทุนฺติฯ อิมสฺมิญฺจ ปน เวยฺยากรณสฺมึ ภญฺญมาเน สหสฺสี โลกธาตุ อกมฺปิตฺถาติฯ
That is what the Buddha said. Satisfied, the bhikkhus approved what the Buddha said. And while this discourse was being spoken, the galaxy shook.
