A Heap of the Unskillful

“අකුසලරාසීති, භික්ඛවේ, වදමානෝ පඤ්ච නීවරණේ සම්මා වදමානෝ වදේය්‍ය. කේවලෝ හායං, භික්ඛවේ, අකුසලරාසි යදිදං පඤ්ච නීවරණා. කතමේ පඤ්ච? කාමච්ඡන්දනීවරණං, බ්‍යාපාදනීවරණං, ථිනමිද්ධනීවරණං, උද්ධච්චකුක්කුච්චනීවරණං, විචිකිච්ඡානීවරණං. අකුසලරාසීති, භික්ඛවේ, වදමානෝ ඉමේ පඤ්ච නීවරණේ සම්මා වදමානෝ වදේය්‍ය. කේවලෝ හායං, භික්ඛවේ, අකුසලරාසි යදිදං පඤ්ච නීවරණා”ති.

“Bhikkhus, rightly speaking, you’d call the five hindrances a ‘heap of the unskillful’. For these five hindrances are entirely a heap of the unskillful. What five? The hindrances of sensual desire, ill will, dullness and drowsiness, restlessness and remorse, and doubt. Rightly speaking, you’d call these five hindrances a ‘heap of the unskillful’. For these five hindrances are entirely a heap of the unskillful.”
