In Search of Gratification
သာဝတ္ထိယံ ဝိဟရတိ၊
At Sāvatthī.
“ပထဝီဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဿာဒပရိယေသနံ အစရိံ, ယော ပထဝီဓာတုယာ အဿာဒေါ တဒဇ္ဈဂမံ, ယာဝတာ ပထဝီဓာတုယာ အဿာဒေါ ပညာယ မေ သော သုဒိဋ္ဌော၊ ပထဝီဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အာဒီနဝပရိယေသနံ အစရိံ, ယော ပထဝီဓာတုယာ အာဒီနဝေါ တဒဇ္ဈဂမံ, ယာဝတာ ပထဝီဓာတုယာ အာဒီနဝေါ ပညာယ မေ သော သုဒိဋ္ဌော၊ ပထဝီဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, နိဿရဏပရိယေသနံ အစရိံ, ယံ ပထဝီဓာတုယာ နိဿရဏံ တဒဇ္ဈဂမံ, ယာဝတာ ပထဝီဓာတုယာ နိဿရဏံ ပညာယ မေ တံ သုဒိဋ္ဌံ၊
“Bhikkhus, I went in search of the earth element’s gratification, and I found it. I’ve seen clearly with wisdom the full extent of gratification in the earth element. I went in search of the earth element’s drawback, and I found it. I’ve seen clearly with wisdom the full extent of the drawback in the earth element. I went in search of escape from the earth element, and I found it. I’ve seen clearly with wisdom the full extent of escape from the earth element.
အာပေါဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ …ပေ… တေဇောဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ … ဝါယောဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အဿာဒပရိယေသနံ အစရိံ, ယော ဝါယောဓာတုယာ အဿာဒေါ တဒဇ္ဈဂမံ, ယာဝတာ ဝါယောဓာတုယာ အဿာဒေါ ပညာယ မေ သော သုဒိဋ္ဌော၊ ဝါယောဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, အာဒီနဝပရိယေသနံ အစရိံ, ယော ဝါယောဓာတုယာ အာဒီနဝေါ တဒဇ္ဈဂမံ, ယာဝတာ ဝါယောဓာတုယာ အာဒီနဝေါ ပညာယ မေ သော သုဒိဋ္ဌော၊ ဝါယောဓာတုယာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, နိဿရဏပရိယေသနံ အစရိံ, ယံ ဝါယောဓာတုယာ နိဿရဏံ တဒဇ္ဈဂမံ, ယာဝတာ ဝါယောဓာတုယာ နိဿရဏံ ပညာယ မေ တံ သုဒိဋ္ဌံ၊
I went in search of the water element’s gratification … I went in search of the fire element’s gratification … I went in search of the air element’s gratification …
ယာဝကီဝဉ္စာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဣမာသံ စတုန္နံ ဓာတူနံ အဿာဒဉ္စ အဿာဒတော အာဒီနဝဉ္စ အာဒီနဝတော နိဿရဏဉ္စ နိဿရဏတော ယထာဘူတံ န အဗ္ဘညာသိံ, နေဝ တာဝါဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သဒေဝကေ လောကေ သမာရကေ သဗြဟ္မကေ သဿမဏဗြာဟ္မဏိယာ ပဇာယ သဒေဝမနုဿာယ အနုတ္တရံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗောဓိံ အဘိသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါတိ ပစ္စညာသိံ၊
As long as I didn’t truly understand these four elements’ gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, I didn’t announce my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, Māras, and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.
ယတော စ ခွါဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, ဣမာသံ စတုန္နံ ဓာတူနံ အဿာဒဉ္စ အဿာဒတော အာဒီနဝဉ္စ အာဒီနဝတော နိဿရဏဉ္စ နိဿရဏတော ယထာဘူတံ အဗ္ဘညာသိံ, အထာဟံ, ဘိက္ခဝေ, သဒေဝကေ လောကေ သမာရကေ သဗြဟ္မကေ သဿမဏဗြာဟ္မဏိယာ ပဇာယ သဒေဝမနုဿာယ အနုတ္တရံ သမ္မာသမ္ဗောဓိံ အဘိသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓေါတိ ပစ္စညာသိံ၊
But when I did truly understand the four elements’ gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, I announced my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, Māras, and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.
ဉာဏဉ္စ ပန မေ ဒဿနံ ဥဒပါဒိ: ‘အကုပ္ပါ မေ ဝိမုတ္တိ, အယမန္တိမာ ဇာတိ, နတ္ထိ ဒါနိ ပုနဗ္ဘဝေါ'”တိ၊
Knowledge and vision arose in me: ‘My freedom is unshakable; this is my last rebirth; now there’ll be no more future lives.’”
