“ทสหิ, ภิกฺขเว, วฑฺฒีหิ วฑฺฒมาโน อริยสาวโก อริยาย วฑฺฒิยา วฑฺฒติ, สาราทายี จ โหติ วราทายี กายสฺสฯ กตเมหิ ทสหิ? เขตฺตวตฺถูหิ วฑฺฒติ, ธนธญฺเญน วฑฺฒติ, ปุตฺตทาเรหิ วฑฺฒติ, ทาสกมฺมกรโปริเสหิ วฑฺฒติ, จตุปฺปเทหิ วฑฺฒติ, สทฺธาย วฑฺฒติ, สีเลน วฑฺฒติ, สุเตน วฑฺฒติ, จาเคน วฑฺฒติ, ปญฺญาย วฑฺฒติ—อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ทสหิ วฑฺฒีหิ วฑฺฒมาโน อริยสาวโก อริยาย วฑฺฒิยา วฑฺฒติ, สาราทายี จ โหติ วราทายี กายสฺสาติฯ
“Bhikkhus, a noble disciple who grows in ten ways grows nobly, taking on what is essential and excellent in this life. What ten? He grows in fields and lands, money and grain, wives and children, in bondservants, workers, and staff, and in livestock. And he grows in faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom. A noble disciple who grows in ten ways grows nobly, taking on what is essential and excellent in this life.
ธเนน ธญฺเญน จ โยธ วฑฺฒติ, ปุตฺเตหิ ทาเรหิ จตุปฺปเทหิ จ; ส โภควา โหติ ยสสฺสิ ปูชิโต, ญาตีหิ มิตฺเตหิ อโถปิ ราชุภิฯ
Someone who grows in money and grain, in wives, children, and livestock, is wealthy, famous, and respected by relatives and friends, and even by royals.
สทฺธาย สีเลน จ โยธ วฑฺฒติ, ปญฺญาย จาเคน สุเตน จูภยํ; โส ตาทิโส สปฺปุริโส วิจกฺขโณ, ทิฏฺเฐว ธมฺเม อุภเยน วฑฺฒตี”ติฯ
When someone grows in faith and ethics, wisdom, and both generosity and learning—a good man such as he sees clearly, and in the present life he grows in both ways.”
