“ปญฺจหิ, ภิกฺขเว, องฺเคหิ สมนฺนาคตา วาจา สุภาสิตา โหติ, โน ทุพฺภาสิตา, อนวชฺชา จ อนนุวชฺชา จ วิญฺญูนํฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ? กาเลน จ ภาสิตา โหติ, สจฺจา จ ภาสิตา โหติ, สณฺหา จ ภาสิตา โหติ, อตฺถสํหิตา จ ภาสิตา โหติ, เมตฺตจิตฺเตน จ ภาสิตา โหติฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจหิ องฺเคหิ สมนฺนาคตา วาจา สุภาสิตา โหติ, โน ทุพฺภาสิตา, อนวชฺชา จ อนนุวชฺชา จ วิญฺญูนนฺ”ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, speech that has five factors is well spoken, not poorly spoken. It’s blameless and is not criticized by sensible people. What five? It is speech that is timely, true, gentle, beneficial, and loving. Speech with these five factors is well spoken, not poorly spoken. It’s blameless and is not criticized by sensible people.”
