“ยํ, ภิกฺขเว, สีลวนฺโต ปพฺพชิตา กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺติ, ตตฺถ มนุสฺสา ปญฺจหิ ฐาเนหิ พหุํ ปุญฺญํ ปสวนฺติฯ กตเมหิ ปญฺจหิ?
“When ethical renunciates come to a family, the people make much merit for five reasons. What five?
ยสฺมึ, ภิกฺขเว, สมเย สีลวนฺเต ปพฺพชิเต กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺเต มนุสฺสา ทิสฺวา จิตฺตานิ ปสาเทนฺติ, สคฺคสํวตฺตนิกํ, ภิกฺขเว, ตํ กุลํ ตสฺมึ สมเย ปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺนํ โหติฯ
When they see ethical renunciates coming to their family, the people bring up confidence in their hearts. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to heaven.
ยสฺมึ, ภิกฺขเว, สมเย สีลวนฺเต ปพฺพชิเต กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺเต มนุสฺสา ปจฺจุฏฺเฐนฺติ อภิวาเทนฺติ อาสนํ เทนฺติ, อุจฺจากุลีนสํวตฺตนิกํ, ภิกฺขเว, ตํ กุลํ ตสฺมึ สมเย ปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺนํ โหติฯ
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people rise from their seats, bow down, and offer them a seat. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to a birth in an eminent family.
ยสฺมึ, ภิกฺขเว, สมเย สีลวนฺเต ปพฺพชิเต กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺเต มนุสฺสา มจฺเฉรมลํ ปฏิวิเนนฺติ, มเหสกฺขสํวตฺตนิกํ, ภิกฺขเว, ตํ กุลํ ตสฺมึ สมเย ปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺนํ โหติฯ
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people get rid of the stain of stinginess. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to being illustrious.
ยสฺมึ, ภิกฺขเว, สมเย สีลวนฺเต ปพฺพชิเต กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺเต มนุสฺสา ยถาสตฺติ ยถาพลํ สํวิภชนฺติ, มหาโภคสํวตฺตนิกํ, ภิกฺขเว, ตํ กุลํ ตสฺมึ สมเย ปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺนํ โหติฯ
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people share what they have as best they can. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to great wealth.
ยสฺมึ, ภิกฺขเว, สมเย สีลวนฺเต ปพฺพชิเต กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺเต มนุสฺสา ปริปุจฺฉนฺติ ปริปญฺหนฺติ ธมฺมํ สุณนฺติ, มหาปญฺญาสํวตฺตนิกํ, ภิกฺขเว, ตํ กุลํ ตสฺมึ สมเย ปฏิปทํ ปฏิปนฺนํ โหติฯ
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people ask questions and listen to the teachings. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to great wisdom.
ยํ, ภิกฺขเว, สีลวนฺโต ปพฺพชิตา กุลํ อุปสงฺกมนฺติ, ตตฺถ มนุสฺสา อิเมหิ ปญฺจหิ ฐาเนหิ พหุํ ปุญฺญํ ปสวนฺตี”ติฯ
When ethical renunciates come to a family, the people make much merit for these five reasons.”
