Things to be Realized
“จตฺตาโรเม, ภิกฺขเว, สจฺฉิกรณียา ธมฺมาฯ กตเม จตฺตาโร?
“Bhikkhus, these four things should be realized. What four?
อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา กาเยน สจฺฉิกรณียา; อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา สติยา สจฺฉิกรณียา; อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา จกฺขุนา สจฺฉิกรณียา; อตฺถิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา ปญฺญาย สจฺฉิกรณียาฯ
There are things to be realized with direct meditative experience. There are things to be realized with recollection. There are things to be realized with vision. There are things to be realized with wisdom.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา กาเยน สจฺฉิกรณียา? อฏฺฐ วิโมกฺขา, ภิกฺขเว, กาเยน สจฺฉิกรณียาฯ
What things are to be realized with direct meditative experience? The eight liberations.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา สติยา สจฺฉิกรณียา? ปุพฺเพนิวาโส, ภิกฺขเว, สติยา สจฺฉิกรณีโยฯ
What things are to be realized with recollection? Past lives.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา จกฺขุนา สจฺฉิกรณียา? สตฺตานํ จุตูปปาโต, ภิกฺขเว, จกฺขุนา สจฺฉิกรณีโยฯ
What things are to be realized with vision? The passing away and rebirth of sentient beings.
กตเม จ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺมา ปญฺญาย สจฺฉิกรณียา? อาสวานํ ขโย, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺญาย สจฺฉิกรณีโยฯ
What things are to be realized with wisdom? The ending of defilements.
อิเม โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตฺตาโร สจฺฉิกรณียา ธมฺมา”ติฯ
These are the four things to be realized.”
