นิพฺพานสุตฺต
Extinguishment
อถ โข อายสฺมา อานนฺโท เยนายสฺมา สาริปุตฺโต เตนุปสงฺกมิ; อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา อายสฺมตา สาริปุตฺเตน สทฺธึ สมฺโมทิฯ สมฺโมทนียํ กถํ สารณียํ วีติสาเรตฺวา เอกมนฺตํ นิสีทิฯ เอกมนฺตํ นิสินฺโน โข อายสฺมา อานนฺโท อายสฺมนฺตํ สาริปุตฺตํ เอตทโวจ:
Then Venerable Ānanda went up to Venerable Sāriputta, and exchanged greetings with him. When the greetings and polite conversation were over, Ānanda sat down to one side, and said to Sāriputta:
“โก นุ โข, อาวุโส สาริปุตฺต, เหตุ โก ปจฺจโย, เยน มฺ'อิเธกจฺเจ สตฺตา ทิฏฺเฐว ธมฺเม น ปรินิพฺพายนฺตี”ติ?
“What is the cause, Friend Sāriputta, what is the reason why some sentient beings aren’t fully extinguished in the present life?”
“อิธาวุโส อานนฺท, สตฺตา อิมา หานภาคิยา สญฺญาติ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติ, อิมา ฐิติภาคิยา สญฺญาติ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติ, อิมา วิเสสภาคิยา สญฺญาติ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติ, อิมา นิพฺเพธภาคิยา สญฺญาติ ยถาภูตํ นปฺปชานนฺติฯ อยํ โข, อาวุโส อานนฺท, เหตุ อยํ ปจฺจโย, เยน มฺ'อิเธกจฺเจ สตฺตา ทิฏฺเฐว ธมฺเม น ปรินิพฺพายนฺตี”ติฯ
“Friend Ānanda, it’s because some sentient beings don’t really understand which perceptions make things worse, which keep things steady, which lead to distinction, and which lead to penetration. That’s the cause, that’s the reason why some sentient beings aren’t fully extinguished in the present life.”
“โก ปนาวุโส สาริปุตฺต, เหตุ โก ปจฺจโย, เยน มฺ'อิเธกจฺเจ สตฺตา ทิฏฺเฐว ธมฺเม ปรินิพฺพายนฺตี”ติ?
