ปญฺญาสุตฺต
Consolidated by Wisdom
“ยโต โข, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุโน ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ, ตเสฺสตํ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุโน กลฺลํ วจนาย: ‘ขีณา ชาติ, วุสิตํ พฺรหฺมจริยํ, กตํ กรณียํ, นาปรํ อิตฺถตฺตายาติ ปชานามี'ติฯ
“Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu’s mind has been well consolidated with wisdom it’s appropriate for them to say: ‘I understand: “Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is no return to any state of existence.”’
กถญฺจ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุโน ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ? ‘วีตราคํ เม จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘วีตโทสํ เม จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘วีตโมหํ เม จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘อสราคธมฺมํ เม จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘อสโทสธมฺมํ เม จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘อสโมหธมฺมํ เม จิตฺตนฺ'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘อนาวตฺติธมฺมํ เม จิตฺตํ กามภวายา'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘อนาวตฺติธมฺมํ เม จิตฺตํ รูปภวายา'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ; ‘อนาวตฺติธมฺมํ เม จิตฺตํ อรูปภวายา'ติ ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติฯ ยโต โข, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุโน ปญฺญาย จิตฺตํ สุปริจิตํ โหติ, ตเสฺสตํ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุโน กลฺลํ วจนาย: ‘ขีณา ชาติ, วุสิตํ พฺรหฺมจริยํ, กตํ กรณียํ, นาปรํ อิตฺถตฺตายาติ ปชานามี'”ติฯ
And how is a bhikkhu’s mind well consolidated with wisdom? The mind is well consolidated with wisdom when they know: ‘My mind is without greed.’ … ‘My mind is without hate.’ … ‘My mind is without delusion.’ … ‘My mind is not liable to become greedy.’ … ‘My mind is not liable to become hateful.’ … ‘My mind is not liable to become deluded.’ … ‘My mind is not liable to return to rebirth in the sensual realm.’ … ‘My mind is not liable to return to rebirth in the realm of luminous form.’ … ‘My mind is not liable to return to rebirth in the formless realm.’ When a bhikkhu’s mind has been well consolidated with wisdom it’s appropriate for them to say: ‘I understand: “Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is no return to any state of existence.”’”
