4. Kaḷāra the Khattiya

សាវត្ថិយំ វិហរតិ។
At Sāvatthī.
“នាយំ, ភិក្ខវេ, កាយោ តុម្ហាកំ នបិ អញ្ញេសំ។ បុរាណមិទំ, ភិក្ខវេ, កម្មំ អភិសង្ខតំ អភិសញ្ចេតយិតំ វេទនិយំ ទដ្ឋព្ពំ។
“Bhikkhus, this body doesn’t belong to you or to anyone else. It’s old deeds, and should be seen as produced by functioning patterns and intentions, as something to be felt.
តត្រ ខោ, ភិក្ខវេ, សុតវា អរិយសាវកោ បដិច្ចសមុប្បាទញ្ញេវ សាធុកំ យោនិសោ មនសិ ករោតិ: ‘ឥតិ ឥមស្មិំ សតិ ឥទំ ហោតិ, ឥមស្សុប្បាទា ឥទំ ឧប្បជ្ជតិ; ឥមស្មិំ អសតិ ឥទំ ន ហោតិ, ឥមស្ស និរោធា ឥទំ និរុជ្ឈតិ, យទិទំ—អវិជ្ជាបច្ចយា សង្ខារា;
A learned noble disciple carefully and rationally applies the mind to dependent origination itself: ‘When this exists, that is; due to the arising of this, that arises. When this doesn’t exist, that is not; due to the cessation of this, that ceases. That is: Ignorance is a condition for functioning patterns.
សង្ខារបច្ចយា វិញ្ញាណំ …បេ… ឯវមេតស្ស កេវលស្ស ទុក្ខក្ខន្ធស្ស សមុទយោ ហោតិ។ អវិជ្ជាយ ត្វេវ អសេសវិរាគនិរោធា សង្ខារនិរោធោ; សង្ខារនិរោធា វិញ្ញាណនិរោធោ …បេ… ឯវមេតស្ស កេវលស្ស ទុក្ខក្ខន្ធស្ស និរោធោ ហោតីៜ”តិ។
Functioning patterns are a condition for consciousness. … That is how this entire mass of suffering originates. When ignorance fades away and ceases with nothing left over, functioning patterns cease. When functioning patterns cease, consciousness ceases. … That is how this entire mass of suffering ceases.’”
