ทฏฺฐพฺพสุตฺต
Should Be Seen
“ปญฺจิมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, พลานิฯ กตมานิ ปญฺจ? สทฺธาพลํ, วีริยพลํ, สติพลํ, สมาธิพลํ, ปญฺญาพลํฯ
“Bhikkhus, there are these five powers. What five? The powers of faith, energy, mindfulness, samādhi, and wisdom.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, สทฺธาพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ โสตาปตฺติยงฺเคสุฯ เอตฺถ สทฺธาพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the power of faith be seen? In the four factors of stream-entry.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, วีริยพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ สมฺมปฺปธาเนสุฯ เอตฺถ วีริยพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the power of energy be seen? In the four right efforts.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, สติพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ สติปฏฺฐาเนสุฯ เอตฺถ สติพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the power of mindfulness be seen? In the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, สมาธิพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ ฌาเนสุฯ เอตฺถ สมาธิพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the power of samādhi be seen? In the four jhānas.
กตฺถ จ, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺญาพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํ? จตูสุ อริยสจฺเจสุฯ เอตฺถ ปญฺญาพลํ ทฏฺฐพฺพํฯ
And where should the power of wisdom be seen? In the four noble truths.
อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปญฺจ พลานี”ติฯ
These are the five powers.”
