භෝජනසුත්ත
Food
“භෝජනං, භික්ඛවේ, දදමානෝ දායකෝ පටිග්ගාහකානං පඤ්ච ඨානානි දේති. කතමානි පඤ්ච? ආයුං දේති, වණ්ණං දේති, සුඛං දේති, බලං දේති, පටිභානං දේති.
“Bhikkhus, when a giver gives food, they give the recipients five things. What five? Long life, beauty, happiness, strength, and eloquence.
ආයුං ඛෝ පන දත්වා ආයුස්ස භාගී හෝති දිබ්බස්ස වා මානුසස්ස වා;
Giving long life, they have long life as a god or human.
වණ්ණං දත්වා වණ්ණස්ස භාගී හෝති දිබ්බස්ස වා මානුසස්ස වා;
Giving beauty, they have beauty as a god or human.
සුඛං දත්වා සුඛස්ස භාගී හෝති දිබ්බස්ස වා මානුසස්ස වා;
Giving happiness, they have happiness as a god or human.
බලං දත්වා බලස්ස භාගී හෝති දිබ්බස්ස වා මානුසස්ස වා;
Giving strength, they have strength as a god or human.
පටිභානං දත්වා පටිභානස්ස භාගී හෝති දිබ්බස්ස වා මානුසස්ස වා.
Giving eloquence, they are eloquent as a god or human.
භෝජනං, භික්ඛවේ, දදමානෝ දායකෝ පටිග්ගාහකානං ඉමානි පඤ්ච ඨානානි දේතීති.
When a giver gives food, they give the recipients five things.
ආයුදෝ බලදෝ ධීරෝ, වණ්ණදෝ පටිභානදෝ; සුඛස්ස දාතා මේධාවී, සුඛං සෝ අධිගච්ඡති.
A wise one is a giver of life, strength, beauty, and eloquence. An intelligent giver of happiness gains happiness in return.
ආයුං දත්වා බලං වණ්ණං, සුඛඤ්ච පටිභානකං; දීඝායු යසවා හෝති, යත්ථ යත්ථූපපජ්ජතී”ති.
Giving life, strength, beauty, happiness, and eloquence, they’re long-lived and famous wherever they’re reborn.”
